    My electrical issue....

My turn signals are going crazy!
when I switch it to turn left the front blinkers do not work but the rears do.
when I switch it to trun right the hazard lights come on.
when I turn on the hazard lights nothing happens.
when I turn the lights on all the lights come up(headlights, fog lights, side markers interior.
All the bulbs are good and I have already switched out the turn signal switch from the steering column, and still have the problem.

My next option would be to check the grounding but I dont know where to start....I am good with mechanics but when it comes to an electrical problem I get stumped quickly.

let me know what you guys think or would do next.

    Thanks!

First question... did it just start doing this or did you just buy it and it is fubar'd by the previous owner.
Second question...How does the wiring look? Does it still looks factory and unmolested or has it been hacked into by a PO (or rodents)

The trouble i had with my tail lights came from the turn signal itself on my 75 the turn stop and hazard go threw the turn signal lever on the steering column took me some time with a tester to track it down replaced the switch lever all is good now may want to check it out

I would say its an earthing problem or a connection within the switches themselves

Definitely sounds like a grounding issue. Possibly on the front left indicator lamp.

No, I have had it for about 8 months now and this problem just came out of no where. Everything is factory....EXCEPT an aftermarket Pioneer radio that I had installed, other than that everything is stock and unbitten.

I think thats what I replaced this past weekend,...after install....the left side started to work (front and back) but when I went to flip it for the right...the hazard lights come on.

Am going to have to track all the wiring down. Good think I have a Haynes repair book!

Actually one time the front wasnt working and went to tap the light because I was a little upset...and it came on...haha

    Thanks!

Whelp, there's your problem- Throw that away & get a factory service manual

No, on second thought- don't throw it away, some poor bastard might find it & try to use it himself-

    burn it instead. :)

    Yeah... burn that haynes book.
Find a Factory Service Manual(FSM)It has the best wiring diagrams and circuit list.
If you find a Factory Parts Catalog, get that too.

To find out if your light has lost its ground just use your test light. With your blinker on left turn (switch ON), put your tester alligator clip on a good ground (engine) and the pointy end on the light housing. If the test light comes "ON" then you have no ground from light housing and it's mounting point.

Alright man I will have to check it out tomorrow morning, I will let you know how things are. I know that the left blinker in the front is very corroded, don't know if that has anything to do with it, but I do have a spare one in the garage.

These vehicles rely on metal to metal contact of the light housings to the body panels to make ground. The rust and sand that is between said parts and panels act to open the circuit. You need to run dedicated ground wires from all the (clean) light housings to eliminate the rusty body joints from the circuit.

    Thanks DREDnot for the pics!

I just finished up re doing the grounding in the front (blinkers and side markers) and they all work now! Yay!.....

but I'am still having trouble with the Hazard lights not turning on, I get no clicking noise from the flashers or nothing at all.

    What do you think?

I re-routed ground to all the main lights and.......drums please...............we have light!!!! I also unplugged the flashers on the fuse box and replugged them in and now the hazard lights work too!

I also found one of the rubber fuel lines running from the gas tank had a tear and was leaking gas!...... I now replaced them too.

Thanks for all the help guys!
