1970 Jeep Rebuild

Today I got front springs changed to a set of Rusty’s 4” SUA springs to help level out the JEEP, it’s about 3/4” difference between front and rear. Also added extended brake lines up front and put in new shackle bushings. I still need to bleed brakes and I should be able to take for test drive.

I did get brakes bleed yesterday and took JEEP for ride around block, suspension feels good no weird sounds or unexpected ride. I do need to pull front passenger caliper and replace it as I had hard time getting it to bleed and the brakes felt spongy.
In the short drive I added more to my to-do list then I knocked off it. I watched my electric oil gauge release magic smoke and stop working, my tach stuck at 3k.
I still need to check fluids and flex it out to see where my bump stops need to be, then it should be closer to being ready.
When I get a few items fixed I’ll start driving it to work and useing it as an every day driver to make sure it’s good to go.

Couple things….when I did the front brake conversion I used calipers from a 1976 Chevy 1/2 ton 4x4. I went to 3 auto parts stores and was told they could order them and should be here in couple days… WTF it’s a common caliper. I could have ordered them myself…..Waiting on parts now.

Picked up a new front caliper and got it installed, bleed the brakes. Brakes still feel spongy, re-checked all the connections, all good, must have air in one of the upper lines. :banghead:
I’ll work on this tomorrow after work.

I ordered my front and rear calipers at different times. Made the mistake of ordering 79 k10 then 85 k10 for the 2nd round... one set has metric bleeders and the other has sae thread bleeders.

Spent some time bleeding brakes last night after a suggestion from a member here. I got my rear calipers as high as I could and used a piece of 2x4 in place of rotor and bleed brakes with my power bleeder. I’m got a lot of air out of the system, then ran out of brake fluid. I’ll try again tonight after picking up more fluid.

Any update on the brakes
I did get the brakes to feel a little better, about 60%, but still needs more bleeding. I did find a few fittings that I was able to get a little movement on.
I did knock off most the other things on my list, just waiting on a few parts to finish up then I’ll bleed the brakes again..
