Lucked into a really good CJ-5 (225 OD 4 Barrel). It's a flip
Has the Offy and a new Edelbrock 1405. I don't want to deal with a 4-barrel.

Does anyone know if a 4-Barrel makes that much difference I've had a 225 since 92, and this motor puts me back in the seats (Fiberglass body cj-5.)
It's somehow completely different.

Completely different

Tempted to put on the M-38, but balls to that

Help Please

Super D, I agree - The Classifieds is a thing, but how do I know if I need to put it on the 52
Looking for 4-B: stuff it on the 52 or not input

It appears you have two subjects here: 1 performance question & 1 for sale. Pick one.
It should go in the Early CJ5 Classified; that's the only vehicle here that came with that engine.

I understand. I will endeavor to ask the should I keep it question. Then post it FS after. Thanks Super D

Ran highly modified Holley 390s for years (floats, whistles, tubes, etc). Then went to the TA470 for several years before going EFI.

Went the EFI route as its easier on the wife in case she has to drive in bad spots. I grew up three pedaling, she didn't so off camber on rocks is a big no go for her :madwife:

I’ve had the same Edlebrock performer on the 231 in the 47 for about 30 years. ran fine on the Rubicon trip this year after I adjusted the air screws 1/2 turn. I might go with leaner metering rods to improve economy, but if I don’t like the result, I’ll just return to my 30 year metering rods and be happy

I’ve installed two different fuel injection systems on older jeeps, and wasn’t happy with how they ran. I also like the simplicity of a carb once it’s adjusted properly.

I run an offenhauser with a carter which is the same carb. There's not much to deal with other than tuning with metering rods if needed. Has worked great for many years. There are some old school mods you can do to the carter to improve its off-road performance. Probably could apply them to the Edelbrock if not already done.

I installed a 450 cfm Holley 4150 on an Offy manifold on my 68 in 1970. That carb was off a 1960 AMC 250 V8. It worked great and actually got better mileage than the 2G. It is still on that engine, the caveat being it hasn't left the shop the last 20 years.

Just because I'm curious, what you mean by this?
Probably because that is WAY too large a carb for any 225. Too large a carb for most 350's. The poor vacuum signal causes all sorts of problems, especially when moving up several thousand feet in elevation. I was worried the 450 would be too large for the 225 but that worked well. IIRC, I ended up with #48 jets in the primaries and 47 in the secondaries.

Please remember that the carb, cam and exhaust systems must be matched for best performance. Just changing one, may not realize much improvement.
This is why I kept everything stock with my recent reman from S&J. They only installed a stock cam, so I kept carb & exhaust stock also. My results were better than anticipated, only because my old engine was TIRED!
