Saturn Overdrive.

Maybe your overdrive is due for a rebuild?
I've got extensive miles in 2 different Jeeps with overdrive. Both V6 and 4.88 gears.
Dad bought his 69 in 1979 with 11k miles on it. One of the first things he did was buy a new Warn OD & Ramsey PTO winch from Dale's Jeep in Colorado Springs. Those have been on it ever since. I drove the heck out of this Jeep in high school in the early 80's.
I built my CJ in the late 90's. It had a T14 and 3.73 axles. I found a parts jeep with 4.88 axles, and a T90/D18/Warn OD combo. I ran this setup for about 20 years. About 10 years ago it was getting extra noisy, I took it apart and found this.

The planetary hub and the bearings that ride on it were toast. I bought a brand new hub from AA and replaced ALL the bearings and seals with new, and it's been working flawlessly ever since.
Both of these Jeeps have a high pitched whine in OD at freeway speeds. They've both always done it and they both sound about the same.
Hence my surprise at everyone else claiming no additional noise

I don't have an OD.
The D18 side drive transfer case is inherently noisy. That's why they switched to the D20 straight drive.
No matter how much the drive load path is slowed, there will be noise with the D18.

I got mine a year ago out of a Junker V-6 cj5 I got for parts Looked clean on the inside, so i put it in, love and mine is quite as well. The junker refused to be scraped and is well on its way to being a nice-running CJ
