Saturn Overdrive.

Same here....the OD is essentially unnoticeable in terms of additional sound....of course, the D18 whine drowns out just about any other potential noise. Maybe the reduced engine rpm from the OD makes the D18 whine more noticeable and that is mistaken for the OD?

To me it lowers the engine noise but adds gear noise, granted mine is a used overdrive and transfercase.

The gears in an OD are all helical cut so they would make very little noise even if running on their own as long as they have a good oil and good oil level. I have an insulated Hard top on CHUG so its in some ways much quieter then say an open jeep or one with a bikini top so I hear more of the rattles and buzzing sounds and I do get additional buzzing sounds from the OD shifter. I'm working on a way to add something akin to the Transfer case anti rattle springs to my shifter. But the reduction in engine speed so far out classes any other noise that noise should not be part of any concern about installing an OD IMHO

Yup....this is what I think is an OEM (or from dealer) shifter with anti-rattle (and yes, it more of an anti-buzz) clip - ignore the peeling electrical tape - it's pretty much identical to the D18 anti-rattle clips - the shifter has a little machined groove for the clip to sit in

Who bought there overdrives new and who is running a used overdrive in a 2nd or 3rd transfercase?

Mine was used.
