On CJ's the front D30's were all "narrow track" until the 1982 model year.
Starting in 1982 the CJ7's and CJ8's went to a "wide track" D30.
narrow track D30 = 53"
wide track D30 = 56"
The CJ5's all stayed at 53" width.

Something is amiss. Early CJ's are in the 51" range. Including MB's, 2A's etc. Where are they measuring? I consider WMS outside of brake drum. I would take this with a grain of salt.

WMS should be literally that, wheel mounting surface. I'm questioning some of those measurements too.
There were whole many-page threads on pirate calling BS to this list back in the day. Verify before trusting.
A 55-71 Dana 27 is narrower than a 72-75 D30
I'll bet collectively ya'll could fix most of this list.

Yes. About 3 inches narrower. If I wasn't so lazy, I could go out in the shop, jack some Jeeps up, pull the wheels and verify the exact numbers.

My 3B stock axles were 49 11/16" and 49 13/16" WMS/WMS for the front and rear respectively, the caveat being both ends were using D30 hubs/disc brakes at that point.

On the 2A through early 5 the numbers given in the post are Tread not WMS to WMS Tread is the measurement of the center of the tire to the center of the tire and the change is due to Wheel and tire width changing. Those who have said this chart/list is inaccurate are correct. I just bought a Matching trailer axle to my 48 2A front and 71 CJ5 rear axle and it was 50.5" WMS to WMS matches my jeep tread perfectly as I run the same tires and wheels on both jeep and trailer.

If you look in your service manual it gives the Tread measurement for a 2A as 48.25"

I am just now finishing up my swap from a dana 27 to a dana 30 NT. I agree my 1971 with the dana 27 and the newer dana 30 NT are about 2" to 3" longer.
1971 cj5 dana 27 50.5"
1977 cj5 dana 30 w/disc brakes 53"

That almost extra 3" (1.5" each side) is what gives the D30 a sharper turning angle over the D27 to allow a tighter turning radius. (y)
