Dualmatic locking hub problem

I have a 1955 cj5 with one lever dualmatic locking hubs. The passenger side hub works fine. Move the lever from lock to unlock with no problems. The drivers side is stuck and won't unlock. I took it off and it works fine. Unlocks and locks back with the single lever, however, when it's bolted back on it won't move from lock to unlock. Any suggestions as it whats going on it much appreciated.

Did you disassemble the hub? They are prone to the body of the hub cracking and maybe something inside cracking. It’s been awhile. They are simple to take apart. Clean it thoroughly and inspect for damage.

No I did not disassemble it. It worked fine when I took it off, so I thought it was okay and not the problem. I'll take it off again and clean it.

disassembled and cleaned the hub. I didn't see any damage on the inside. I greased it and put it back to together and it seemed to work fine until I put it back on the axle and tightened it down. Same thing happens, it won't let me lock or unlock it.
 
I have never seen "one lever" Dualmatics wish you would post a picture.
