Tub differences

At the 67-71 commando tubs the same as the 72-73 tubs? I know the earlier ones have brackets for the grille support rods. Looking at a 69 tub for the 73 I'm working on.

AFAIK the Jeepster/Commando got the same treatment as the CJs, a 5" longer front clip.
That would imply that tub is not substantively changed.
Pretty sure they got the GM steering column, which might change the dash and seating position.
Prior to that would be the same column type as the Wagoneer.
They could have moved the driver's seat position outboard whern they switched from Ross(?) to Saginaw.
I know that a pre-72 convertible top (the real convertible, not the roadster) will fit on a '72, BTDT; same body AFAIK.
Sorry I can't be more certain.
If you can look at the early tub, those are some areas to look at.

Hood hinges are different and maybe the firewall. Those are 2 things I'd look at.

Hood hinges bolt to the fenders. Both bodies are hard top models. Looking at replacement parts for the floors, everything is from 67-73. I'm fairly certain the tubs are the same.

My commando doesn't have a GM steering column. The key is still in the dash.

How do the earlier hood hinges mount?

I believe the rear inside wheel wells are a little different, but not in a way that would matter much.

The top style definitely does not matter.
There was a full cab, a half cab, a roadster and a convertible.
The roadster is the open body, like a CJ.
There was a top like a CJ top that fit on the roadster body.
The convertible was different, similar to a convertible top on a typ[ical passenger car.
Any of these could be installed on the tub without modification.

Also, the tub is different at the bottom, on the front, where the fenders attach.

I can tell you that the body mounts are the same. I have a 70 tub on a 72 frame. You do have to get creative the front clip which I plan on stretching a hood and Fenders.

Do you have a picture of that area? From what I can tell, they are identical.

71 and prior has a dogleg at the bottom of the fender.

Are you building a Bullnose? The cowl ahead of the windshield area is different.The Bullnose body has hidden passenger car type hood hinges mounted to the fenders vs. the CJ style hinges of the ‘71-older mounted externally. The contour of the top of the cowl may be different too?
