Not sure why I did this, but the price was right, so here it goes.

1969 jeep CJ5.
231 even fire v6
T14 transmission
Dana 18 twin stick T case.

Suspension unknown.
Dana 44 rear/27 front.
11" drum brakes

The member I picked it up from was moving/selling his house so I jumped in the truck with my father in law and took the 3 hour drive down.

Trip home was uneventful, it's in my shed now. Many, many boxes of parts to unpack to see what I actually all have.

The before was just an illusion.
Spend some time at the Youtube university learning about welding panels without overheating them.
That will be the nicest jeep you own when you are done.

Currently no bottom on the body. No rear wheel things either. IDK how id square it up for new panels.

*I think I want to put the new panels towards my wifes 68 dauntless build.
*I wanted to put my orange body, dana 30 flanged 44 BDS suspension on this chasis, but I've had that jeep since I was 18, I'm 44. I've replaced every nut and bolt, I would get in it and drive it across the country without fear of breakdown.
If I go this route, now I've got a perfectly fine f134/t98 chasis with no body on it.


I am at an impasse in jeep life it seems. I've always said one jeep to rule them all, but now I'm up to 4 jeeps and two chasis jeeps.

I've decided a route to go on this project. Going to do a Saginaw steering swap on this. First step, box the frame horn in with 3/16" steel. Do I need the body on to mount the box, so I can get some steering angles started, and point in the right direction?

I would mount the steering box last before paint.

Box the frame from bumper to radiator support then wait. You need the jeep at road height unless you just copy someone and hope for the best.

Do the plates for boxing the frame get welded flush to the inside? Bought these that came with a few other parts for a Saginaw kit. Trim to fit?

I got my boxing plates with the Advance adapters steering conversion kit, they fit a lot closer than that, didn't require much trimming. That was almost 10 years ago, and I can't find the pictures, so I am going by memory though.

Looks backwards to me. You want it welded to the radiator support not the bumper. The frame is boxed behind the radiator support so you will create a crumple zone right where they like to buckle.

Backwards or not, does it seem awful high? Lots of material to trim, or is that just me?

Yes, that definitely needs to be trimmed down.
