Should it be black or OD "plastic" around its outer circumference?

I'm having trouble getting on the 2A page for some reason so I dropped it here.

The one I have is an MB style metal spoke steering wheel with black plastic for the grip.

I just got a 46 column shift with the mb style steel spokes and od outer.

my 46 #49031 is od. I have a cover on it obviously.

My 46 also had a late war MB style wheel that was in poor shape. It had the black plastic grip/rim.

I have an OD one supposed to be coming to me. Correct or not, it's going on the jeep. Let the sticklers stickle if it ain't right.
