Woodstock

This is Arnold Rock, where we caught the group in front of us, again. And we are not moving fast, just steady. After they had a FJ40 dead with vapor lock, we persuaded them to let our 7 to pass.

Nick got all twisted up just before Buck, and had the fan hitting the shroud. We stopped in at the Buck Island repair station to tighten up the grille mount, and have a beer with the crew, which are all old friends and club members. Then, over the hill and hit the bridge at 730PM.

We were in camp with just enough light for a swim, dinner, and set up camp. Next morning, we have the whole Springs because the main group doesn't come in until afternoon. We had a work party, straightened the bar, put up the parachute, and trimmed the bushes. Then celebrated with a bloody mary.

Oh yeah, time to relax, swim, eat, repeat.

Camp is set up. We have more jeeps rolling in today.

To wrap up the Jamboree, morning in the Springs is very nice. We crammed 12 jeeps and 20 tents into our little meadow. Real estate in main camp is hard to come by, so this is where the pre-trip pays off. I am enjoying my new setup, swing away carrier, and umbrella, so the solar is in the sun, the fridge in the shade.

8AM, people are hungry.

Then, after breakfast, we had a mishap. Good friend and 30-year jeeper with us had a spell of lightheadedness. The EMT's were on him quickly, and came to our camp several times to check, and eventually decided to evacuate him. From the time they made the call for Calstar, they put him in a Georgetown Fire jeep to head to the back meadow that they use as a heli-spot, had him at the spot in 15 minutes, and the chopper arrived a minute later. They have this down. He was in the hospital for 2 days, and is now back in Idaho recovering. It was a bummer, but we aren't getting any younger, gents. Keep your life flight insurance current, which he had.

The rest of the Jamboree was just eating, resting in the river, and socializing with all the crew and jeepers. We are already making plans for next year, the 75th anniversary. We are talking to WFO, who we share a camp border with, about how we can celebrate together, without getting flown out, obviously.

Saturday night, the mountain man feast. 1000 New York steaks, a National Anthem done right with a flyover, a fire-dancing troupe, then the main act band. It's a late night, and even earlier morning packing up to get out.

We were at top of Cadillac by 10, home by 1. And, I want to point out that Woodstock was flawless. It got me through the 3 trips without a hiccup. Until I got to the Tahoma staging. The old crappy starter that was in a probably 100k mile 5.3 gave up the ghost. A quick bump start, and I was home. I almost have Woody trained to break down in the driveway, and that was close enough for me, I'll take it.
