Tuxedo Park Registry

I have a question....
Im looking at a tux. 1965. It's all there and complete. The body is solid but the frame is too far gone. The 134 has a knock.
The seller has a v6 frame and several v6 engines and parts.
My questions are:
Is there a difference between a 4 cylinder frame and a v6 frame?
Does the v6 engine add greater resale value?
Does a none original v6 engine add or detracted value?
I was just going to buy it for parts but now I'm thinking even in this condition it may be too valuable to part out.

My other jeep is a cj5 from December of 63. It is a low mileage jeep with only about 63k miles on it. It needs a radiator, shroud and the entire oil bath air cleaner assembly. The Tux jeep has all of that. But it's all very original and complete. I hate ruining the value of one vehicle just to polish a turd. Maybe I should just roll mine in glitter?

One last question.... all things being equal , how much value does the tux option add to a vehicle that is otherwise equal in all other respects?

Thanks and happy holidays
Im going over to look at this jeep more carefully on Thursday. What pictures should I take to share here for reference and ID confirmation?

Again... thanks and happy holidays

Yes, the frames are different between the F143 and V6 Jeeps, both regular CJ5 and Tuxedo Parks. The engine mounts are different, and the F134 has a battery tray welded to the right side frame rail.
The ‘64/‘65 Tuxes are F134 powered and had a colunm-shift T90, and most had a 60/40 bench seat. There were originally only 4 colors for these early models (red, white, blue, & green). These models had 4.27 axle gears standard, with 5.38 optional, different softer 2-stage springs, and larger 10” brakes.
The ‘66/‘67 Tuxes for the most part got the V6, and came with a cane shift transmission and a pair of front seats. The later Tuxes were essentially the same as a regular CJ5, only with chrome hinges, taillights, and fittings. All V6 CJs had 3.73 axle gears standard, with 4.88 optional, and 10” brakes became standard.
I don’t think “original matching numbers engine” really adds any value (these aren’t C2 Corvettes). Any V6 powered CJ is generally more desirable from a driving standpoint. They can easily keep up with traffic up to 60-65 mph. There are some who find the original column-shift models more desirable for their unique features, but thats’ subjective.
Most people on this forum don’t use “resale value” as an important factor. These early Jeeps are often labors of love.

This is the vin for the tuxedo mk IV.
The jeep is complete but very rusty and the 134 knocks
More pictures to come.

3spd on the column. Bench seat, chrome bits, hard top. It's all there but rusty like the titanic. Im looking to buy it for parts. I need the oil bath air cleaner assembly from the carb to the oil bath aircleaner mounting bracket. Radiator and shroud. The rest is probably coming up for sale sometime in the spring. It's very very rusty. But it's the real deal

Wow, definitely well worn! The chrome parts are almost always pitted after all these years. Bumpers bent. The hardest Tux part to find is the rear folding license plate holder. Again, the pot metal used was soft and would get heavily pitted.
Check on eBay, some really nice parts still come up.

Rusty......

Just purchased this 1966 CJ-6A out of Michigan. Ser. # 8422 A 10365 Looks to have its original #393 Gold Beige paint, V6 Dauntless, D18 single stick and T86. Most of the Tux chrome bits are there. Includes a complete hard top and seat brackets. Runs but doesn't drive (clutch and U-joints) and will need floorboards, rockers and rear cross member if not a complete restoration. Will be bringing home in a few weeks. When I can figure out these new media controls I'll post some pics.

edit: After further review, I think this paint color is Gold Beige not Prairie Gold.

Congrats on your purchase! Been following along (I’m the administrator on the FB page for Tuxedo Parks, I,II,III and IV)
This will be awesome following your progress to bring this one back!

Your 6 project looks like a great start. Let me know if you find a source for the chrome Hall 701 tail lights (about the only non-original feature on yours!).

Since I'm likely going to rechrome most of the existing bits, I'm just going to look for an original set of tail lamps and have them chromed.

A few details on the BAT Tux would make this one very complete. The front signal lights, and rear tail lenses are not correct. These items are not that had to find (maybe not actual Stimsonite lense, but the overseas replacement). The gas cap isn’t correct either, but the stainless one is a common replacement. The rarity of a 8422 Tux begs these details should be corrected. Someone spent some money on all that nice chrome.
Is that seam sealer all over the center floor section?

I can't speak to the gas cap.
The front signal lights don't look familiar to me either, but I believe I have photos of it 25 years ago so I'll try to see if they were on it then.
I believe I may have the original stimsonite lenses from the rear. They were most likely sun faded.
PM me if you need details of the seam sealer.

Just stumbled across this page while I was doing some more research on Tuxedo Parks and decided to add to this registry. I recently "purchased" a 1965 Tuxedo Park Mark IV CJ5 from my family along with another basic '59 CJ5. I grew up with both Jeeps and adore them both. Both are non running at the moment but have largely been unaltered for any form of off-roading or so. Intent of both (but particularly the Tux) is to restore to close as factory as possible for show and preservation.

The CJ5 Tux's title says that it is a 1965. Vin is 8322 11893. Mileage is at 72,858 (though speedometer has not worked in a while so I'm not sure if that is accurate). It has the hurricane 4 cylinder engine, and the column shifter. Majority of the chrome pieces appear to still be there, with the exception of hubs and rims (which I already acquired a set on eBay). Color is Parkway Green. Seats have obviously been reupholstered to plain black. A canvas back seat is present in the back. The Tux was repainted sometime in the 2000s but was poorly done so it started breaking apart in chunks and exposing bare metal at points. 6 years ago (in a complete panic), I truckbed lined the inside of the tub to protect it. Not the smartest move as present and future me have to remove it but hopefully it protected the tub. I *think* there may be an undercoating on the underside. As far as I can tell at this point, the tub appears to be in great condition.

I'm still learning about Tuxes so if anyone has anything to point out or add, I'd love to hear it. Also is there a way to access this registry? Or is it just whatever is posted on this forum?

The correct 701 rear lenses have a center reflector with a cross-hatch pattern, the BAT Tux looks like the lense center is the 150 style with the bullseye pattern. The correct gas cap should be a chrome version of the Eaton or early military AC cap with a raised dime-sized “bump” in the center.
Jeeps of this vintage used a white-ish Mor-tite like compound on the floor plates, as well as the joint where the front fenders join the tub/firewall. It was used sparingly and didn’t really show until it was disassembled.

Very nice and complete Tux. It doesn’t look like any rust. Much of the original chrome is there and looks to also be nice. You have an earlier steering wheel with the small horn push, and a couple non-original accessories (is that a tow bar bracket on the front bumper?). You have the correct seats up front, but they would have been Sylvan green vinyl in a narrow pleated pattern. The rear seat is not original. The Tuxes usually had matching cushions on the rear fender tops. You might find the snaps that held them in place. What is on the passenger firewall near the air cleaner, a battery tender?
You say you have acquired hubs and rims? Tuxes often came with dealer installed Warn hubs, but your dual-matics could have been dealer supplied too. The original rims were painted with white faces, and often had full “turbine” hubcaps that are now hard to find. Overall, your Tux looks very solid and complete, including the column shift. Just leaving your serial number and photos is enough for the “registry”. You found the right place for info. I hope you keep your Tux original as you fix thing up.
