I found a classic auto site that sells 6v heater motors, I have not had a chance to get cage dimensions to see if it would fit housing. Not too much of a worry though. It is more of a cosmetic thing, that way I can turn the cool red switch under the dash on, here the motor fire up and then tell myself I am warm. ;-)

Got another issue I have been working on. I rebuilt the Ross steering box. I filled it with oil and have not installed it yet because it seems to be leaking lube. First it was around the bottom of the column but that was because the collar was not very tight. But while I had it on bench it leaked out of the hole in the bottom (Where I think the horn wire feeds through) I am not sure if I forgot something inside or it was just not designed to lay flat. It also leaked out the end of the column where the steering wheel goes. If this is normal then I will clean and fill her back up and get it mounted before it has a chance to leak out. Seems like when it was attached to the jeep before, it looked like it had been leaking. Just like a Harley!

Better than that canvas strip that Kaiser sells I would think.

My Harley hasn't leaked a drop in twenty-five years.
    Now, Triumphs….

Inside the jeep steering box, the horn wire runs up through a tube that takes it above the level of the oil, Maybe that tube is loose at the base, and leaking there. Possibly it could be re-peened, or brazed. (I did that sucessfully once on one of my vehicles, just can't recall which one.)

Or, if it is simply over-filled, the tube will overflow and leak around the wire. "Laying flat" certainly might well do that. Is that how you got it to leak at the steering wheel end??? o_O

Why not just fill it to the correct level after installation? The fill plug is on top of the box.

No, not designed to lay flat, there's no seal at the top end where the shaft comes out.

Also, you need to ensure that you put the correct lube in it.

Yeah, I probably filled it too much. I will get it bolted in and then fill it back up. Makes sense, I did not recall seeing anything that would have prevented the oil from leaking out.

Ok so now I am down to starting the Jeep. I replaced the wiring harness with Walck's cloth wrapped one. Looks sweet. Horn and lights work. Jeep turns over but it appears I have no spark. I did keep it 6v. One thing I thought odd was measuring voltage on + side of coil with key in start position before I hit floor starter button just jumps to Overload on meter (DC) over and over. Not sure if I have something wired wrong on regulator and ignition. Went over wiring directions repeatedly. Any ideas? Got new point, condenser, plugs,wires...

Sorry I never updated this. Yes got it running. I had put on a new set of plug and coil wires on that I had only to find out that they were 12v wires...not for 6v. Made a huge difference.
