Z bar question

    Hey guys, just bought a 73 CJ5 with a 304 from my buddy. The Z-bar is not perfectly perpendicular with the frame, it's at a noticeable angle. This isn't normal right?

    The bar for the clutch, isn't it called a z-bar?

    I've only heard it called a bellcrank.

    The angle changes depending on frame flex (sometimes enough to prevent the clutch from disengaging), so yes, it won't be perfectly parallel. You might check your engine and transmission mounts. It's slightly adjustable, lengthwise as I recall. The end bushings wear out too. Here's a pic from the '77 manual; the 73-75 is similar:

    Ok, thanks. I just noticed this jeep has the shackle reversal kit. I guess it's pretty cool....
