I finally sourced some Yakima racks cheap enought for me to complete my ambition to have racks mounted on the trailer. Now it will see use as the 'Take-out trailer' for kayaking excursions.

This trailer is a nowhere near original but is the most functional piece of equipment I've ever owned.

Sorry for the low quality camera phone pics

Nice trailer. I'm looking for some cheap yak racks myself to mount on my M416....

Check Craigslist - they come up down here fairly often. These were by far the cheapest I'd seen at initial asking price so I jumped on em and even got them a little lower.

I've already done a test run with one kayak on the trailer and am quite pleased. It will comfortably hold 2 kayals and plenty f gear, and I can carry another 2 on top of the cherokee.

I looked into this a few months ago as well. It looks like you got the A1 gutter mounts and I'm assuming you used the artificial gutter brackets too? I was going to go that route, but I found out that the low rider mounts work as well. I was able to pick up a set of Low Riders for $30 so I'm going to give those a try. I haven't mounted them on the trailer yet, but I test fitted them and it seems like they'll fit. I have to get some longer cross bars before I mount it up. I have 58" bars on my XJ, but my spare set of bars are only 48" and they're too short for the M416. What size bars did you use? 66" or 72"?

You are correct, sir. 1A towers and the bolt top-loader brackets. I was told these were going to be discontinued so I bought them years ago.

I actually have 58" bars on the trailer and i like the way they look. I have 66" bars on the XJ so I guess I could switch if I ever wanted to try a different look.

    FYI for everyone,
3/4 Ridged galvanized electricians pipe has the same O.D. as Yakima bars,
may not look as nice, but may be cheaper (especially if your an Electrician)

I'm doing a similar thing to one of my trailers so I'm not putting the kayaks on and off the car all the time, but using the rigid for the trailer so I still have the option for my car.

    have a good one

I added some Yakima 66" cross bars to my M416 using Yakima Low Rider mounts:

Do they clamp directly to the bars? That's a sweet setup, and a nice trailer too!

Yes, the bars actually slip through the Low Rider mounts. As you tighten the mounts down, it puts pressure on the bars to hold them in place. They clamped pretty nicely to the lip of the trailer.
