Hi, I'm new here, but not new to the Jeep addiction. I have read about the few Canadien Windsor built Jeeps here on the web, but info is sketchy. I believe I have one of these Winsor built 5's, but the serial #'s don't seem to match what others say. Mine has the serial #'s on the common Kaiser/Willys tag and that tag is stamped Toledo, OH. Under that is the model tag, which simply states CJ-5, but also has "Kaiser of Canada, LTD" and "Windsor, Ontario" under that. My serial is 8305 196784 W. Jeep is a 28k mile original, almost nothing has been tampered with. Factory red (now blue) 4cyl 3sp w/Ramsey PTO winch. Most of the serial number info I've seen has a the Canada built code within the #'s. Mine just has a W at the end. I am unsure what year this is, but believe its a 1966. Any info/comments/others like this? Thanks much! E

    Odd to say the least.

Have you checked with Derek at the 3B page? He's Canadian and has some information on the Canadian CJ-5s over there that I don't.

Mine's a Canadian. No W at the end of the VIN, tho, IIRC....

Sparky, thanks, I'll go check out the 3b board and write a note.
Patrick, thanks for the reply. I'm a bit puzzled on this one; tags are original (factory red paint on and under the tags) but the serials don't seem to match up with anything. Had a cop buddy run the VIN and it's valid and comes back clean. Weird. Early model? Leftover tags? I dunno. Does yours have the canadien letter code in the middle of the serials like the others? Was yours a V6 originally? Does your model tag have the Windsor Ont lettering on it? Thanks, E

Yes, factory V6. It does have the extra Windsor Ontario tag.
    Just checked the VIN
8305 (normal) then C16 blah blah......
I assume the C denotes the Canadian origin....

Yes. the C + #'s are for canada built models. The few I've seen or heard of all have serials like your and not like mine. I'll have to poke around some more. Thanks much for your input. E

Nowadays if you import you get a decal to put on the door post to state that it has passed import inspection. I wonder if that's what they did then? Two tags?
