i was just thinking i need to make some kind of mount for a whip for glamis on the money pit. i noticed ive got indentations on both sides of the tub right above the rear wheels. these look like a good place to put a couple of mounts,( they were probably made for that originally):?. has anyone used these indentations for such a purpose? i wanna make (a) custom mount(s) for this but im looking for some ideas. any suggestions?:)

Those indents were leftovers from military versions, which had soft top bows that fit into them, kind of a V shape affair. Often referred to as "bow pockets".

when disco was hip my old man had the ball and spring type mount bolted through the body above and behind the rear passenger tire. He probably made use of leftover holes from spare tire carrier when he ditched it.

The cool kids bend it over and tie it to the mirror when you want to go under trees and such. QD is kind of risky in that you could hit the mic and blow your amp if you don't have a dummy load or real antenna on the end of the cable.

The really cool kids use the shortest antenna possible on their trail rigs if they wheel in the trees...:D

I run a 3ft. top loaded Firestik, and it's about 4" over the top bow on my Supertop. It does just fine.

i know in glamis they require the whips to be a certain height for safety reasons.....so others can see you over the dunes

not required (yet) to be lit at night
only have a flag (which is useless at night)
but at night, the vehicles headlights/offroad lights should give you some warning.
I like the Michigan method: mount the whip/flag on the fornt of the vehicle or the front bumper; it's the highest point of the vehicle on uphills.
I bought at Chaparral, a buggy type, screw on/screw off with a cheap flag; meets the requirement; you do have to mount the base but the whip comes off easily.

My flag mount is a welded on nut to the corner of the bumper.....easy to remove the flag when not in use. My CB antenna is mounted to the back of the tub, it sits about 6" higher than the soft top

I of course kick it old school ,8' stainless steel whip mounted to the spring thing, I remind people get out of the way of the striking distance, when we're in a canyon.

If I had mounted the ball on that side cut out , it would have been ripped off long ago. I think thats a bad spot dustin , but a great spot for a bottle opener:)

congrats on becoming a full member , now you just need your first trashcan!
