I thought I was golden. Seemed like a plan. Ready to take some measurements and went out and noticed this. Notch can't be cut because the roll bar foot is in the way. The bar is about 1 inch from the sides of the tub and probably an 1.5" or so from the back corner. I could scoot it back a smidge but probably not enough to make a big difference. Thoughts?

Oops- thought I downloaded some pics. Can't seem to do it. It's under Bill's CJ 5 in the Albums

Reroute the foot to the top of the fender well. Or use an earlier style roll bar that attaches to the top of the fender well.

Sadly- That's where the roll bar is now. It butts right up to the end of the wheel well. I'll try again with pics.

    Sorry Bill,
That's how our '75's are set up...... I've got a GM tilt wheel in Mine. Could be a possibility for You.
BTW, We're Neighbors. I'm up on Lake Ontario in the Summerville area. Ask ? Read Fockers threads about posting pictures in threads or Replys.
I'm interested in your seeing more of your Rig. I t looks like were similar colors ?
    God Speed,

Are any of the earlier or later bars any better? The wheel notch seemed like such a good option. Where did you source your GM tilt wheel? How tough do you think it would be to find a good match? Is it worth the time to search in pick-it yards or better to just get a fresh aftermarket set up? Doesn't seem like there's anything electrical in the column other than the horn and the blinker is sort of an add on. Did you consider shortening the steering shaft? Summerville is just up the road!

sorry for the crappy photo shopping ...but it looks like if you "trimmed" the foot you might be able to slide the seat back farther

I wondered about that but then I need to redrill or abandon that front mounting bolt. I'll take a look again with a more desperate eye. Maybe that one is"extra". Maybe I need to do the cutout on the seat too. It's like building with Legos.

I think you are dealing with the fact the intermediate driver seat position is shifted a few inches further driver side than the early vintage seat position. The few extra inches probably means you have to notch the entire width of the fender all the way to near the outside edge where the roll bar mounts. Most of the early cjs can probably get away with only notching the inside half of the fender as the seat is a few inches more inboard. Is there anyway to you can get away with only notching the fenderwell right up to the roll bar mount? Will that leave just enough room for the seat to slide back with the roll bar right along the side of the seat back? If not, unfortunately, I don't know if there is a good solution...you could always modify the roll bar in some way, but that is certainly increasing the scope of the project.

Yeah, this is what I would do. Remove a bit of the angle iron that sits on the fender house top. No need to delete any bolts. The corner of the roll bar mount could be trimmed so you could get maybe 2" of notch. The edge of the seat is squishy and would ride up against the bar.

Another possibility is to raise the height of the seat some, to accommodate longer legs, and adjust the position of the steering wheel. This recent thread 1975 Steering Wheel Swap discusses some options. Make sure that raising the seat does not block your line of sight with the windshield frame.

I think what neohic did is your best & easiest option . The add Bonus is that he did it on his '75 .
"Here’s my solution in my ‘75 "......( Quoted by me , Below, to help you ) :

" While I didn’t need the “belly room” I did want the steering wheel out of my lap. I moved the whole steering column up on the dash. Starting with pulling the column, I cut and added about 3/4” just above the bottom of the dash mount.

Then I cut the same radius that was in the dash behind the column up the same 3/4”.

" Finish up with drilling four new holes and then give the firewall support a little tweak to match the new angle."

"Most CJ people don’t even notice but it made a HUGE difference."
