Found a bargain. I'm trying to get all the parts for a power steering conversion, I needed a pump core, a Buick pulley and the front part of the Buick high mount PS bracket. I found them all through car-part.com at a junk yard in Pa. For $35 total!!!

Got my cluster wired up today. I have for the first time since owning a cj5, a working fuel gauge. Temp gauge isnt reading but think the sender isnt working. Just need to get an oil pressure switch and wire the alt light in:cool:

Well, after exactly 60 years, my CJ5 F-head six-volt voltage regulator was misbehaving.
Cleaning the points bought me a month or two, but it recurred.

Here's why I love Jeeps… an exact NOS replacement (identical part #) cost me $30 and took 30 minutes to replace.

    Good-to-go for another 60 years!:)

The whole body looks like it was dropped out of an airplane onto jagged rocks. It does start and run well though....and it's got some really cool old Goodyears on it.

Not sure the fender will buff out but the patina makes it a keeper.

    No :poo:!

I can't wear a pair of clean jeans for more than ten minutes before something dirty happens.
As for white a Tee, that ain't happenin' ever. There is a reason bikers wear black.

I'm on a bit of "house arrest" after spending too much time on this 3B over the last week, so I only had two hours to work last night. I had a midnight curfew. :susp:

Another "some day I'll fix that" item: I removed the t-case shifters from this 3b many years ago and fabbed a plate that locks it into low or high. Racing these jeeps is so violent, it was common for the weight of the shifter to knock the t-case into neutral if you didn't take precautions, either with a plate like this, or bungees on the shifters.

Unbolting the plate and getting under the jeep in the mud with a prybar every time I wanted to shift from low to high got old 12 years ago. Time for some shifters.

This is a total rush-job, but I need shifters! I bent up some 1/2" pipe and slipped them over the ends of the shift rails. I fabbed up a plate with a 5/8" nut welded to it to accept a sleeved bolt. This plate bolts to the T-18 top cover. The sleeves will get the tabs welded to the underside, and some shifters will get welded to the top sides. I'll finish it up tonight... If I'm allowed out of the house. :susp:

My dad used to be able to change a rear end and remain clean. That Gene skipped me and went right to CJ. He did put overalls on later though. Me, when I think about working on a project while I'm in church, I will look down and find a stain. Just for thinking about working on stuff.

I think I have some fenders that you could cut up and piece together with his that would make it safer to walk around it with out getting wounded.

I got the shifters finished last night. I have a Dana 20 with the interlock pill removed, so the left shifter controls the rear output independently of the right shifter controlling the front output. I can run any combination of ranges (or neutral). It's not for everybody, but I love having the options. Both shifters forward is low range 4wd, and both shifters back is high range 4wd.

    Low range:

    Solved 2 problems with $0!
Well I kicked the can down the road until spring anyway.

My jeep battery has been getting weak lately, and Saturday in the parking lot at work it was done. I had to get a coworker with a JK give me a jump. Dang.

But at the same time I had been thinking about bringing my boat batteries in the garage so I could keep them charged over the winter.

And I am trying to keep from spending money with Christmas coming up, a daughter going to college next year and a power steering project already eating up my Jeep budget.

Then a light bulb went on over my head! My boat starting battery is a series 24, is fairly new and is needing something to do over the winter! It is plenty big enough for a little ole' v6!

Problem officially kicked down the road until spring time!
