Thats what's good about a CJ, it's small to go with the small workspace. yes, it does, we installed front springs in there.

I’d spend some time in the workshop maximizing room, out with crap, and a great place to work on your stuff! Go slow to go fast;)

Wow Tyler/Levi, your tub looks pretty nice! Always wear your PPE, and don’t forget to take pictures as you go! :)

i'm Levi, my dad is Tyler.
i dunno... it may look good in pictures, but in person the patches that were welded on need patched, there are holes with moss growing in them, and several layers of steel (or so it seems) in places. definitely not a candidate for a resto, but a great candidate for learning how to weld.

i'm gonna have to pull the trans/Tcase at some point, since the transfer needs some work (and seems to have excessive play in the output shaft), the parking brake needs to be made operational, and the transmission needs new synchros. still not running, but we've done about what we can for now, and some ignition parts are coming to NAPA on tuesday.

that's after about a cup of water came out of the drain, with nothing behind it. o_O

the tranny doesn't look bad, but it seems that most of what's in there is water, which you can see on the shafts/gears.

    here's one of them times
I would fill it with diesel fuel . to wash it out
but you got to have a running jeep . up and down the block a few times

pretty nasty, grosses me out a littleo_O, What Ron says sounds like a great idea! Someone thought it was a jeep submarine~ what's the engine oil look like and the front/rear diffs?

it was my dad that did that when he was a youngster, so i'm gonna blame him if there's any damage. the rear diff looked the same (but liquid), so i REALLY want to check the front.
we need to get some parts to get it running, but what's the point of cleaning it out inside the jeep? it needs taken out for work.

So, what's a good used transmission & TC go for these days? for me that would be the past of least resistance, but being mega-young full of enthusiasm, I'd probably dissect it, if anything to learn about it. I overhauled my brothers T90 and is pretty darned easy, but never have been in a TC. I have no clue what parts go for in a TC. I think I'd have to remove the diff covers and see how bad they might be and make a decision, in the meantime do what Ron says, probably need a few gallons of diesel. See what others say, but the call is yours  make a logical decision;)

it's not running yet. i din't know what a used setup would be, but i'd like to try to resurrect this one.

You should get it running, have you performed a compression test or cylinder leak down test. I remember the rocker arm assembly looked pretty clean. A lot going on here with your jeep Levi~ you're doing fine;)

    compression is ~100 on 1,2,4 and ~50-60 on 3
there was gunk where the oil is supposed to drain back to the crankcase from the valve lifters. put engine flush in the oil, then replaced oil.

Well, Squirt a few shots of oil into each cylinder with an oil can, allowing for sealing of the rings to occur. Be sure throttle is wide open when performing the test, and a hot battery(fully charged). A cylinder leak down test can identify where lost compression is going (rings, valves, cracked head, etc)

However, a cheap way to perhaps do a "leak down", use the compression tester hose, if it has a quick release for compressed air, with each piston at TDC, and keep the engine from turning, apply compressed air, say 60psi, then give a listen where compression may be going, even open the radiator cap; looking the radiator for bubbles. The F134 heads/ block do have a tendancy to crack between #2/#3 cylinders, a weak spot

When I put my brothers engine on my engine stand, pulled the exhaust manifold, I was worried about a cracked block, but magnafluxing proved all was ok and proceeded with the overhaul. The engine runs great these days;)

Cylinder 2 plug was rusty, but not the others, may have been the head gasket after all said n done

i've been sick the last few days, and haven't done much on the jeep, and what i have done i didn't get pictures of (since my hands were greasy and i didnt wantto hurt my phone). i got the bellhousing bolts out, and 3 of the crossmember bolts out. i broke one of the crossmember bolts, but the other 2 came out.

we tried to rotate the tires on the suburban, but it appears that someone may have run the lugs on with an impact, and after putting excessive amounts of force into it (with a ~4ft breaker bar), i broke a 22mm socket.

Gee Levi, hope you're feeling better~ not gonna ask you what you had cause everything is dubbed a Cov19! You might want to spray every nut and bolt that you one day will break lose with pb blaster, wd. An impact socket may not have broken or a good brand socket may not have broken, meh, who knows. It breaks, you fix :D
