warn 8274 winch
Wow! Not much there for $450
That’s a good price for that
I like his description!
The price of these has been hammered by the new import stuff. Hard to sell these for more then about $400 if they are in good shape. Best winch ever built imo. I used to get about 600 for a nce one. Now it is getting tough to even sell them. Your location may differ.
Start posting them over here if you have them. I've literally never seen one for under $800, regardless of condition.
Just checked, case in point:
Warn 8274 8K lb winch
I guess I've now never seen one under $750.
Do they sell at those prices?
No idea. They usually aren't around on CL for long. I've had my eye out for a winch for my dump truck for years, and the prices are insane. I sat at an auction all day waiting for a 12k# warn winch with a bumper, but it was missing the remote. I bowed out of the bidding at $600 and walked away disgusted when it hit $2000. I heard the last bid at $2400 as I was getting in my car. Twilight Zone.
Prices around here for anything used are crazy. I've completely given up on yard sales. Everybody thinks their junk is gold.
The harbor freight junks have been killing the good winches. When you’re winching a rig with a harbor freight one, it sounds like the planetary gears are going to exit stage right. My warn is nice and quiet.
In workable decent condition and in some cases ones that have even been recently rebuilt I see them bringing around $600-$800 and even more if they have composite rope/cable.......but, not like the one shown above as with just the electronics & cable alone you could easily spend another $400....just to fix.....................and keep in mind they still sell them New for North of $1700+........
And Daryl is right............most folks will just buy an offshore winch that is more show than go!
I did a nationwide Craigslist search last year looking for a nice one and found a farm dealer in Nebraska that had 2 still New in the box that he was trying to peddle..........These are extremely heavy in the box I think around 125 lbs. ea. , but he had a deal on truck freight that was way too cheap to pass up..........Bought them both and later sold one that just about covered the expenses for both.
Pretty much the same here.....$800 and up....good condition or junk, doesn't seem to matter. I'd love find one for half that.
There was one for $200 here a few weeks ago.
Hey now, I have a Harbor freight junk 12,000 lb on my car trailer. It works great for what it does. Pulls old junkie Jeeps onto the trailer, tires or no tires. Have not found one I could not pull up. But your right, they are not the best quality and they are noisey, but what the hell.
I have had several 8274's from very early ones to brand spanking new ones. I love them all. The one up top is an earlier version and probably needs at least new oil seals and a couple bushings, but could also need gears and a new motor (not cheap) etc. Never know until you open one up. But parts are still around to be had and if you get a good one, they are the best winch going, in my opinion, but I am partial to them. fast as hell and then gets to the load and grunts its brains out.
Around here, they still brings good money. I added synthetic rope to mine and it doubled the cost of my used one.
Bummer, I didn't see that one, I've missed out on a few others locally in that price range, usually due to bad timing or just not being quick enough.
You and your NOS...That would be very cool!
Around here that would not last a day at $450
I picked up an 8274 about 3 years back off CL for $100, with a remote. The guy advertised it as a boat winch and had it bolted to a column under his stilt house to pull his boat up the ramp out back. It was a pretty neat setup with a galvanized sled on small wheels to carry the boat.
My best 8274 story was an add for "electric wench $100" he had one really bad cellphone picture circa 2005 flip-phone. It was on the front of a Toyota. He made me take it off and I got the entire bumper/brushguard. It had been an old man's truck that he had just bought. The cable had never been unspooled and the remote still had the original twist tie on it. I actually felt a little guilty on that one.
mine came in a box like that - 81
except it was jeep special equipment from dealership
I've had it off maybe twice . it's heavy with mounting plate
