I checked these two VINS and there is not an active record in Texas. This only means it is not titled here at this time.

You probably already know that since it is not 17 digits that CARFAX will not help.

I would recommend requesting a title history from the state in which it is titled. In Florida
    http://www.flhsmv.gov/data/past.html

Once you get this history it may tell you if it came from another state. Then the process starts over with that state's DMV or DOR. Some states are keeping records for shorter periods due to data storage space.

    Good luck with your search.

thats kinda my issue i cant seem to find any state it was titled in. it was supposed to be bought in jersey. but they have no record of the jeep there.
from what i was told it was used at a small airport to tow small planes. and that it might have never seen any taged road time.

May not have ever been titled. Many Jeeps were sold as industrial or agricultural machines and never licensed to go on the road. This is also why so many have weird designations or the wrong model listed on the title. Many states issued a title years after they were sold when someone bought something surplus and then wanted to drive it on the road. These are all very strange concepts to the clerks in today's DMV offices where they have never had to deal with mismatched or missing information. This is also why sooooo many Jeeps have a title that doesn't even come close to matching the rig it is with. Simply put, nobody really cared about getting the information right 50 years ago on a what was a utility tractor-like vehicle.

Cabz - I went through hoops to get a title for mine. I had to get a notarized letter from my family that mine was a farm jeep and used only on the farm and was never titled.

Having a Jeep if Florida with no title is very difficult. Good luck getting it done.

In Oklahoma getting a vehicle titled only requires a notarized letter & bill of sale from the previous owner. Maybe if you had a friend or relative who lives in a state with less restrictive vehicle laws then have them "sell it" to you?
    Just a thought.
