There was a vacuum advance unit used on truck engines.

I've often wondered if a vacuum advance would help at all, I know from playing around with Tonk that a few degrees one way or the other makes a huge tradeoff between low & high RPM torque. If I set the thing right I can spin the tires taking off  but it tops out at 30  The other way works well for top end but a little old lady with a walker can beat you across the intersection when the light turns green R)
