I drove the CJ project around the block the other day. When I tried reverse the transmission bucked and twisted quite a bit. The only mount I have on Transmission is the cross-member mount. There seems to be a spot on the transfer case all the way to the passenger side where there should be a mount but I see nothing on the frame or crossmember where any mount would blot up. I know I've also read about a cable/wire thing that stabilizes the system. Please help with details of what I'm missing as well as source for parts if you know. Thanks

Yep. There's a rubber "donut" on my '68 Dauntless on the passenger side of the crossmember that connects to the transfer case via a "Z" bracket and nut/bolt.

And there is the cable thing (threaded on one end and a ball on the other) that attaches to the transmission via a bracket and to the x-member via a "fork" bracket. This is to prevent driveline snap and bucking and tighten things up a bit.

I've got a pic somewhere of the latter.

I only see the mount to the cross member on my 70 v6.

Here is a photo of that helps.

Here is one type of mount on the passenger side. Some examples have this mount using a round 'doughnut) under the TC to the cross-member instead of the rectangular mount on the inside of the frame (see if we can get a pic of that as well - there used to be one in this same thread but its not visible now).

Interesting, I’d like to see that pic cause I don’t see what you are talking about, that’s not to say it’s not supposed to be there.
Here is a close up photo of the bracket on the passenger side, no donut though.

Edit: I’m missing the donut that was pictured in that link. Good to know.

Its not a great picture...but here is the round 'doughnut' mount to the cross-member as opposed to the mount to the inside of the frame rail. You can see the round mount just behind the front drive shaft:

Pretty sure the donut thing that mounts directly between the t-case tab and cross-member is a 4 cyl thing. Take a close look at the picture James linked in post #5 above, you should have 3 mounting points for the V6 set-up:

    Left to right:

    1. F head engine mount on passenger side of frame, Z or L bracket to t-case tab.
    2. Rectangular transmission mount with adapter plate.
    3. Stabilizer post mount on driver side of adapter plate.

Eh, here is the pic for ease of reference...

The bottom of the donut can be seen in the first pic (with red arrow) in my "Preparing To Drop Transmission" thread.

47v6 said a replacement "donut" is available from the likes of Kaiser Willys dot com : Transfer Case Mount Insulator Kit Fits 41-71 Jeep & Willys with Dana 18 transfer case

From your documentation I read on another thread and here, I'm not discounting the fact that I may have a CJ5 that was originally a 4-banger and converted to the Dauntless V6.

Some are available. The t-case Z bracket and transmission adapter plate, likely not. Might try a WTB in the classified section for those.

Transmission mount: Transmission Mount T86, T14 CJ5, CJ6, Jeepster Commando

Trans mount stabilizer post: Transfer Case Stabilizer Stud
(with the above, I used the nesting rubber upper front shock mounts from a Jeep JK Rubicon)

T-case frame mount (yes, it says L and F head engine mount, same part): Engine Mount Front L & F Head 4 Cylinder & 2WD 6 Cylinder

Cool. I think I can put something together.

Any more information or photos of this cable mount thing? Is it a part that is mostly not used?

Golly. Took me forever searching outside the site for this cable. Don't know its proper name either. Could be stay-cable. There's a photo in post #9: Clutch chatter in reverse

It's also referred to as the "mystery cable"
