I purchased an origional oil bath air cleaner on ebay which the element was falling apart, they come up occasionally. I cut the element off about an inch from the top and replaced it with a K&N filter, the top squeezes it to the bottom for a good seal. It works great and looks origional. I dont remember the part number for the filter but I found it by researching the size on the K&N site. If you have trouble with the part number let me know, I should have the recipt somewhere. I think it fits a mini cooper or some other british car, I cant remember.

I received the air cleaner today, after it was held hostage at the FedEx facility over the weekend. It's perfect, I'll definitely need a spacer tho. A local Jeep guy is a student at a machine school and the instructor encourages them to find their own projects. He's going to use the plans posted in the thread and make me one...Win, win!

Have him make a dozen out them up for sale. Bet they sell quick if priced reasonable.

In order for the Buick air cleaner to clear for my application, the height of the spacer will have to be changed to 1-3/4".

Well I ended up making my own spacer for $3 out of an exhaust pipe connector from AutoZone. The parts guy thought I was a weirdo. I had my air cleaner in hand but was playing around in the exhaust area. I love one offs!

It's not pretty but it works great. I used my grinder and a 4-1/2" cut off wheel.

I basically cut slits all the way around, folded every other tab one in and out. I cut off the outer tabs to make a lip for the air cleaner to sit on.

The inner tabs snap inside perfectly...It actually makes a snap sound.

    Plenty of clearance.

Does it seal between the spacer and air cleaner housing?

Does it allow dirty air to bypass your filter element? May not be very significant if it fits tightly and seals pretty good. OEM one actually has a gasket that seals the riser to the air cleaner assy.

Maybe I could seal with a quality silicone or weld?

I have a very good grade silicone that I've used on my pool pump. It holds up to heat etc..

JB Weld is a good idea too.
