Curious where some of you have had transmissions and transfer cases rebuilt in the Colorado area. I know many of you have done the rebuild yourself, I just don't know if I am skilled enough for that project. I assume base on the year, I have a T86 transmission, but if you guys think it might be different, let me know that as well, haha. Wanted to know where and how much a rebuild might cost me in this area. I have a 68' CJ5 with the Buick V-6. Thanks guys.

Herm the Overdrive guy gets such good rates on shipping that he is probably your best option. If a shop needs parts, he will probably be where they would buy them from so usually easier to just have him do it.

Thanks Daryl. Prices are very reasonable. Shipping might be a different story but worth looking into. Thanks a ton.

I once used A-1 transmission down in town on Yuma street years ago to rebuild the T5 in my cj7 (yea I know - I wouldn't do that today as the T5 is pretty much junk, but I didn't know any better then). It was so long ago that I don't know that its even worth my recommendation as the shop may be completely different, but the T5 lasted for as long as I had that jeep (which is either a small miracle or a testament to the shop). I am checking with my local 4x4 club to see if anyone has a recommendation around here.

Call him and have him do a shipping quote. No one has shipping deals like he gets.

Most likely a T14 in a 68, but you never can be sure with mid-year component changes at the factory and previous owners swapping parts over the years.

It should have the transmission model number on the side of the case and on the top cover.

If you do decide to rebuild them, I have found that Novak Adapters has the most complete kits. You'll definitely want their Dana 18 intermediate shaft or a NOS one if you can find it.

Its really not a tough rebuild - if you have the parts its less than a day to rebuild them. I would use the 'Transmission Clinic of Colorado' down here in the springs. I've had them do auto trannies over the years with no problems.
