I am thinking of making a sight glass for my dana 18. thinking of making it look like the ones on an atlas II, but on the side instead of the rear. any thoughts/ideas.

I remember Dr. Vern doing that...but didn't see it after taking a quick look at his website. Try the WT archives.

call me old fashioned, I like mine with just fill/drain plugs. ;)
I can see rock/road debris breaking/ripping anything under there while driving/wheeling; you wouldn't know it till it's too late
maybe some flexible clear vinyl like tubing would be better, after all, it's only for sight purposes
I don't like the idea much, that's my opinion

been tossing the idea around. not fond of sticks/debris grabbing the tubing and loosing all the oil.

if your someone who regularly checks your fluid levels, like me, it's no big deal for me to remove the fill plug and stick my pinky in
gives me a chance to inspect the rest of the undercarriage while I'm napping under there

Plus if fresh oil drips on your face you know you've still got plenty. :D

Good idea but just more places for leaks. I'd pull the plug to check plus like jim said good place to get a nap.

I'm was going to make one for my T14-D18 combo but haven't gotten around to it. The tranny has a drain and fill plug on the case and all you would need is 2 black iron or brass street 90's, 2 hose barbs, and a length of clear tubing.

Since the tranny and t-case share oil, if the T-14 is okay then so is the D18. Good luck ;)
