Hey guys, if this thread has already been discussed please point me in the right direction. I've got a stock 64 cj5 with very old 7.10-15lt's. My question is about replacement. What is the largest tire you have tried on the stock jeep without problems?

If you want to have no issues whatsoever then the current equivalent size tire, or maybe a size larger is the way to go. Having said that, when you say stock I assume you mean stock springs too. Are your springs good, not worn out and sagging?

Springs are in good condition. Not trying to make a huge change, due to the tiny hurricane. But am interested in a wider tire for sure.

31"x10.50's should fit, but if you don't want to go quite that big 30"x9.50" might be a better option

Are you looking for flotation in sand, mud, or? What type of tread pattern are you looking for? Wider is not always better, sometimes you need a tire to dig in and bite when in mud for example. Some times wider can create more rolling resistance also, not just flotation. How does your Jeep steer and handle now? Do you feel safe driving it? Does it stay in it's lane and not dart around at all?

i'm not looking for much mudding, mostly rock crawling and a little mud but nothing deep. i like the idea of the 31"x10.50s the jeep is completely disassembled so i have no idea how it drives, just preparing myself for what wheels/rims will cost.

There are plenty of tires and wheels available, and it sounds like you have time to shop around so that's good.

Your 7.10-15s could be 40+ years old. I bought my 45 CJ2A in 1970, it had 7.60-15s on it and they were wore out. You could be looking at a tire made in the 60s.

Look into 235-75-15. Very common tire size with all the variety you could ask for in tread pattern etc. Plenty of them in LT, which is a 6 ply. They are not generally a heavy tire which helps with the Fhead and its minimal power.

The 31 10.5 should fit fine, but wheels will need to be bought as well.15x8 on the 10.5 should be good. With no other mods, I think I would go 30 9.5 and you can run either 7" or 8" rims.

31x10.5 will fit with the right wheels. They will rub a little, but no big thing.
Gives the jeep a more chunky modern stance, the stock look was much skinnier. Your choice.

The old 7.00x16 mud tires always worked just fine for me, too. 16" wheels were an option.

Bear in mid the old-style bias tires generally stood taller than radials.

I have the Mickey Thompson 31X10.5 tires on my '62 CJ-5 and 2.5 lift springs. The only adjustment I had to make was the turn stops. The edge of the tires would hit the leaf springs if I turned them all the way to the right or the left. It was very close, so I didn't lose much in the way of the turning radius,

Not a huge fan of wider tires. Of course I like the look but the function I haven't seen a lot of reasons unless you have horsepower and gearing to support. Me personally had two Toyotas. same gears and everything except tires. Tall skinny on one and wide on other. Tall y skinny won for rad and mud general off road use. Wide did better only in sand . But that yota with wide tires looked nice.
