What exactly does the throttle return spring hook to on the block. Below the throttle bracket is a plugged drilling passage and my spring was just hooked into the the recess, but I've seen some pics that show there is something that the spring actually hooks on. Mine must be missing.

If I remember right there is a hole through that plug you're talking about.

My plug is recessed. So it's like there should also be something else screwed in there after the plug?

I keeping finding more and more delay in getting this thing back in and running. Very frustrating.

Should be one with a square head sticking out. I'm assuming the rebuilder pulled the plugs and put them back when he was done? Is that the only one that's recessed?

    well yeah.
The first ninety-percent takes 90% of the time, and then the last ten-percent takes 90% of the time (as I tell my clients).

But if you were like most of us, you'd already be driving it - with no exhaust, no windshield, no brakes, and an orange crate for a seat!

Like Glenn says, a square-head pipe plug, with a hole drilled through the square part. Cheap fix.

I got down and looked real close and it is a threaded plug with a recessed Allen head. When I look at pics when I pulled it out, it appears to be the same recessed Allen. There was not a square head previously. I can image why someone would have replaced it. And the one towards the front on the other side of the oil pump is the same thing. The original speedo showed like 15,000 miles and based on what he found when opening up the engine, he (rebuilder) believed it was never in before him.

I'll ask the rebuilder next week when over that way but I bet he either didn't remove them or just used the same ones. I'll see if I can compare before and after threads showing to see.

Since most things take twice as long as we originally expect, and you have only accounted for 180% of your time, then you must be a fast worker. :)

It's just easier to solve these while it's on the garage floor. I am really anxious to get it stabbed back in and go driving, but I'm fixing to be out of town for couple weeks so I'm learning patience.

Well, sure enough, when I zoom into the pics I took with the greasy engine hanging after I pulled it, I can see square head plugs. Now going to have to take the pics and ask him what happened.

Hopefully he didn't toss them. Even if so it should be easy enough to get more.

It's a 50 cent hardware store part. No biggie.

Yes but I want my 60 year old ones back. I have an emotional attachment to them. Just joking. But really, it just so happens that I drive right by his place every week when I go pickup the grand kids for a day or two. But it does make me realize that I need to take even more close up pics of the L226 from the wagon before I drop it off.

Cheaper and easier to just get a plug drill a small hole, sealant and done.rebuilder already fogged them in the metal scrap bin,and he may have buggered it up getting it out
    Yep,never enough pictures...:)

I called him today and said they should have put original back in since the spring attaches but he's got some and will drill one out for me. Since I go right by his place when I pick up the grandkids, I'll just stop in next trip. So all works out fine.

This sounds exactly what I went through on valve stems when I bought tires. I told owner I wanted original valve stems and caps retained (renegadeII d slots).
Of course, the apes in the back did not get the message and they were lost, or kept.
It wasn't the biggest issue, but really did not speak highly of their customer service.
They were able to find them, but took awhile.
