I'm no painting expert, but I've learned to get whatever I paint into the garage soon. If it's warm out things seem to get gummy/tacky vs the theory of "Baking". Sometimes the shade doesn't even help.

If the primer accumulated moisture it may possibly initiate rust-staining years from now, depending on the paint type.

I don't spray anything if it's over 60% humidity. The spray traps the moisture and the moisture causes the paint to blush. I'm guessing that 60% is an ambitious number in Florida though.

What you need is a portable greenhouse to cover your project. Around here it would act like an E-Z-Bake oven and bake the enamel or what ever you are putting down.

If it's too hot, the top of the new coat of paint flashes over (dries too quick) and the gases that allow the paint to dry and cure can't get out. It's like the paint that's still wet under the dry top coat is still in the can if that makes sense. That's the gummy/tacky issue Focker described.

I've been spraying lacquer and other finishes for many years and I've experienced just about every issue you can experience. You wouldn't believe what happens when you use a polish or wax with silicone in it on a buffing wheel inside your shop. It plays havoc with any lacquer finish you spray for years, endless fisheyes. If you take your finishes seriously you'll be careful of humidity, high heat and silicone. I only use body shop approved waxes and polishes, those have no silicone in them. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the valuable tips.
The rig is being built indoors, but the majority of the paint is outdoors.
I am now trying to spray when humidity is below 65% ( tough in FL in the summer), then bring into the shop...

A friend is re-assembling a jeep he got in boxes. I'm not sure I've ever seen this tag before. Where is it from?

    Likely a differential.

I don't know. Maybe a code with type, date, or ratio, or?

I have a similar tag on the transmission as well as the differential - but I think the transmission tag has the model number on it my case (T14A).

I'd guess transmission tag, though it could be from an axle. I will try to find it. 947384 is a Jeep PN, like mid 60s.

Jim, you are like Jon at Border Parts. Drop some random transmission gear on the counter and he immediately rattles off the part number. (y)

    Well, not quite.
The parts books is always handy for these types of questions.
    But thanks anyway Joe !

Since it has both trans and diff specs, would it be the same tag in both locations?
