Is this a time when bigger is better, as in big wire spool...

I try to keep at least one 10 lb spool ahead just in case this happens. I know many will say not to, but I always give a new spool a light spray of WD40 when I store it away. Our humidity seldom drops under 80%, and I got tired of cleaning rust dust out of the liner.

Put it in a tupperware box with some desiccant. A paper bag holding some crystal-type kitty litter is a good desiccant. Also good for your ammo.

Yep-or live in a dry place. I would expect there would be some WD40 residue in your welds. Probably not much as the stuff does evaporate but.

My challenge has always been the gas, both for MIG and OX/AC. I keep a close eye on the cylinder pressure but it really drops fast near the end. Since Matheson took over the local supply house they decided to close on Saturdays. Ouch.
