Moderator, if this is in the wrong part of the forum, do what you do:)

Hi!! Yes, it's mine and I have to make it really good. I hope with ya'lls help, advice and think this will be a lot of fun! The seller is very happy to have sold it to me(mostly for the money), but he seemed to think I'm a good builder after seeing some of my build pics;)

I think it's pretty straight forward, do some engine checks, compression, etc, It has a miss, but power steering is wonderful and so is power brakes! It rode solid, does have some whisky bumps, but I can fix that. I think I'd really like to have the engine gone through by the same company which did my Dauntless and Robs F134.

I hope there are some fellow YJ'ers on board to help with mechanical. After I've gone over it, I'll take it down, pull the tub, probably put it on the rotisserie after I finish my '68 jeep hood. This is not happening right this minute as I do have a build going on; like you guys already know.

I know there is a forum for Jurassics, but the build will be here as I've grown fond of the people here.
    dne' ;)

This will be a fun project, and I'm sure you'll have it done before labor day. The YJ is a whole other animal than the cj5, and cool for totally different reasons. There's a lot of knowledge on this forum for even the newer jeeps!

Interesting how the ad overlooked that hole in the hood

Winch is a bonus (y) Looking forward to learning about the YJ vicariously.

Looks like it needs a lot of cosmetic work, but nothing you can't handle. I couldn't get a real good look at the climate controls or the engine, but maybe it has A/C? Nice to have in Texas. Oh from about April through October. Really looking forward to seeing what you do with this. I've enjoyed following your other builds. And as Focker alluded to, we don't have to wait long for updates. :watch:

James, I anticipate this "build" to go at a pretty quick rate, so stay tuned, but I am going to alternate one day for the '92, then back to the '68. And yes, the hole :madwife:

I'm looking forward to what I'm going to do with it! lol At least I don't have to think of what color and custom colors will go on it. Oh, sorry, no AC, just heat, but a system from Nostalgic Air is a 1000 bucks~ I'll probably do that:D

The fenders weren't bad to get off except the bolts were a little rusty. I broke my only 40 torx bit; have a set coming. The jeep doesn't even need fenders, the grill is sturdy and could be driven this way!

You can see the "AC" bracket, the guy said it was an option and the bracket might have been there out of convenience?
I ordered a compression tester~ I think mine disappeared

I'm thinking to check the engine out as it has a rough spot, can't tell if its a miss, but something is wrong. Perhaps old gas? the guy said to drain the gas and start fresh. I'm thinking to "tune it up" fuel filter, plugs, cap, etc, maybe even injectors? I'm thinking I could just take the engine and have it overhauled, but it doesn't smoke, just runs poorly.
other thoughts after the engine seems to be ok; pull the tub, pull the engine/trans, strip as much from the frame, take it to be blasted, I'll epoxy/paint the frame, do the brakes, etc. it's a start of the thinking process:crazy:

Compression performed with disabled fuel pump, throttle body wide open, remote starter and turned engine over ~ 4-5 times.
    compression: front cylinder or #1= 135, 150, 150, 140, 150, 150

Can't believe I didn't get that first spark plug in the pic! but it was the same as the others. The top plug in the pic is #6
    [IMG]

#6 is sooted/foulded and I guess that might be my bad running/shaking at low end upon acceleration?

Ideas? Should I just assume the engine is ok at 115k miles and leave it alone? just tune it up?

Plug wires seem to be the most neglected tuneup item. That could cause a miss and resulting misfire. I would take the Jeep out on the highway for a quick run then look at the plugs. That would blow out any oil or soot from a misfire at idle.

Any new old car that I bought would get the full tune-up and all the belts and hoses replaced. I'd replace all the ignition consumables, all filters, all fluids, and probably clean and rebuild with a carb kit.

Tim, it looks like this right now, no fenders, basics just for it to start. I did drive it for 20 minutes to get it here, and I did try to "blow it out", ran Ok, just had the shudder like a miss I guess.

I have this on the right build?

I had plans to remove the steering column to repair it. I had it up on the 4 post lift with the mustang below it and noticed a peculiar amount of spider webs. In kind of midair hanging by a thread~ at close look I could see the hour glass on it black bottom:shock:. I truly hate spiders~ so I put gloves on and carefully caught in a cup that I could cap. Sadly I destroyed the darned thing , but all the while I've been putting my hands under the dash etc.

So, I backed it outside and got my pressure washer out and did the same thing I did to my jeep and brothers jeep like below; I didn't get a pic of my '92 yj darn it! But I feel a little better:whistle:, I just hope the spiders kids aren't going to be pissed off :steamed:

While backing the jeep out, I noticed the exhaust leak that I had heard on the drive home, now with no hood/fenders, I could really hear it, it's just not cracked up to what it used to be , I make funny!:sneak:

That could be causing some of your engine issues. It's upstream of the O2 sensor and might be letting extra Oxygen in. If extra Oxygen is registered at the O2 sensor, the engine controller thinks it's running lean and will add extra fuel.

It could be an explanation for the soot covered plugs.

I saw a LR Discovery similar to this one (but white with a Jurassic Park logo on the side) in Kalispell last week. Loaded to the gills with overland gear. Thought of you.
