This V-6 intake is ugly. At least the EGR ports are. What does that mean? These were plugged near off. Less than pencil diameter. Motor was "rebuilt" 60K ago. Not me. 105K total anyway. Why are they plugged? Relatively soft carbon; I've chewed most of it out of the manifold and the head with a peanut grinder (yes, I was careful.... I think). When I flipped the manifold to see where this goes, I see the other end isn't any better. I managed to poke a hole through and drain out the brake cleaner I shot at it.... So, since I know nothing about nothing, I have a question or three:

Why does it look like this?
What should I do to prevent it?
Why is that mainfold carb base pitted like that?

IIRC that isn't an EGR port, but a passage way to warm up the carb. I blocked mine off when I did the rebuild. I read somewhere that doing so will keep the carb cooler, and help prevent boiling fuel in the carb and better fuel atomization. I just made two small plates to cover the ports at the intake gasket, and sealed them in place with gasket sealer. Once the intake is on they can't come off anyway.
    Works for me...
