I need to know what the input spline count and shaft size are for a t90 and also if the syncro assembly diameter for the t86 is bigger than the t90 assembly or smaller. I am trying to fix a t86 by putting t90 guts in it but the parts were partially assembled and I think the previous owner put the t86 syncro cluster and 2nd gear on the t90 shaft which seem to fit but don't match up right with the cluster assembly, just trying to make heads or tails out of the mismatched parts and get this thing assembled right. Also how long is the input shaft when it is coupled to a
    Dauntless v6?

I think I've seen the same thing, where one cluster gear out of a T90 wouldn't align with the mainshaft. I had one that would align so I used that. I don't know if the cluster gear I used was out of a T86, or why the T90 gear wouldn't work. Kinda surprised me when I did it, because IIRC they looked the same. The bearing retainer I had was stamped T86, so maybe the cluster gear was from a T86 too.

I can look in the morning... I think the t86 synchros are larger...I know the clutch sleeve is bigger. The t86 2nd gear should not fit IIRC because the shaft is spiral cut on a T86. I have all T86 parts sitting in a box, and a spare rebuilt T90 (adapted to V6) with the cover off in my garage.

I do know that the 2nd gear is an idler and is not attached by splines, it spins freely until the syncro cluster is shifted between 3rd and 2nd and thats what locks it to the main shaft not the spline on the shaft. 1st and reverse are the gears that share the splines on the shaft (curved or straight) not 2nd, 2nd is not moveable.

I remember now...it has a bronze lining to spin on the shaft...I need to look before I speak..It has been 4 or five months ;)

I can get the measurements in the morning.

The input shaft is 1 1/8" 10 spline, just like the T86. The "stick-out length" on mine is ~9 1/4" Not sure who made that input shaft. The blocking rings/synchro are ~2.75-2.8 on a T86, and 2.55 on a T90.

Thanks Mike, I think my problem is that the input shaft I have is wrong , It measured 1 1/4" -10 spline.
