Im just about ready to install the T18 as a replacement for the T14 in my 74 and have run into a snag. The stock trans mount for the T14 has a wider bolt spread and bolt size, about 4 1/4 inches v. approx 3 inches for the T18. Anyone else do this swap? Ive seen a Advance Adaptors tcase mount for 41-75 crossmembers, will this work? All the trans mounts Ive seen listed in catalogs are a generic 72-86 part. Im pretty sure I have a Jeep T18 (1978).

R&P at 503-557-8911 Stocks the trans mount you need. Depending on your crossmember you may have to drill the two holes required to bolt the rubber mount to it. I think the mount is around 20 bucks or so. You will also need to move your crossmember back and modify driveshafts. The swap is well worth every penny when it's done though! Nickmil.

Thanks Nickmil, I figured I'd have to move the crossmember and there are a lot of possible mounting holes in it now. More fun for the coming weekend. Steve

I run a Jeep T18-B from a full sized Cherokee in my '71 (with the Ford input). I replaced the tranny mount last year.
My tcase adapter has holes to mount the tranny mount. This texas adapter, (factory mount that was on the T18-B) has the holes ~3" apart, maybe less.. There was no way a '72-86 poly mount was going to work. I tried to narrow the distance between the slots on one of those, but it wasn't enough, I ran into the steel body of the mount on each side and still needed another 1/2", so I gave up on that.
I went back to the mount that was installed at the time of the swap (1995) : the '71 factory T14 mount, slightly modified.
To make the T14 mount work, the holes on the upper side had to be filed. Using a round file, I slotted each of the holes making them closed together. I kept filing, maybe a 1/2" or more on each hole, until I could feed the bolts in from the bottom and thread them through each slot and into the tcase adapter.
After that the mount bolted to the crossmember in existing holes.

I don't know if your '74 set up is the same... but this worked for me.
And like Nick said... when it's complete, it's worth it!! :D
    HTH!

Lynn, thanks for the input. I was looking at the original mount and thinking about doing something like that.
