Looking at maybe buying this Craigslist trans. http://austin.craigslist.org/pts/3579826468.html I need a T15/Dana 20 for my '75 project and this fits the bill if that's what it is. The top looks more like a T150 to me than the tower that I got with the '75. (Rest of trans/t-case is missing.) I spent half an hour looking for Google images but came up goose egg on the T15. Novak's description says it has bosses on the side for doing a side shift style but none were known available. So, do all the T15 have the bosses on side of case? I know the 15 uses 4 bolts on the bearing retainer and the 14 has just 3. Novak has a good pic of T150 top, but not the T15.

So, with that known, has anybody swapped a t150 into your intermediate in place of the T15? Any caveats? I have another T150 I got for parts and it looks like with a clutch disk, bellhousing, and pilot bushing I can run that.

    Thanks for any help,
    Mike

That appears to be a t150. That seems to be a common mistake to call a t150 a t15.

This is a t15 on eBay but it won't work in your CJ without swapping the input shaft: http://bit.ly/14SAAUy

Yup, the one in the Craigslist ad is a T-150. Used from '76-'79 in CJ's.

The T-150 uses a different bell housing from the T-15. The clutch linkage parts will be different. The overall length will be different - you may have to move the cross member and change the drive shaft lengths. So it won't just drop in.

Here are some pictures of a T-15: http://jeeptech.com/trans/t15.html

Have you tried posting in the classifieds here? You could also try posting on the other Jeep forums - a T-15 from a six cylinder J-truck or wagon is the same as the transmission that your CJ had. As in the ebay ad, the V8 FSJ T-15s have a longer input shaft and a spacer/adapter. Maybe try JeepForum, WIllysTech parts board, here, IFSJA... and try a car-part.com search. You haven't even started to tap all the available resources.

A T15 will usually have casting number 13 07 xxxx cast into the body of the transmission.

A T150 will usually have 2603xxx or 260xxxx cast into the drivers side of the trans (example 2603983)

Thanks for the responses. I have a line on a T15 locally that's just the trans for $150. Are the transfer case adapter/inputs the same on the T15 to the T150? I have a Dana 20 from a T150 I got last weekend that I can use. i knew the T150 had different bellhousing than the T15 (Thanks AMC) but appreciate the heads up on the clutch linkage. Not in a big hurry, so I can afford to wait on the right deal. I missed one last week, actually more than I wanted to spend so was waiting for price to drop. It did, from $450 to $350. I was going offer $250 this week, but it looks like it already sold.

I have a junker '74 304 CJ-5 that I got free years ago. The trans is stuck in one gear and the motor is locked up (rust hole in hood right above air cleaner....) but the transfercase, bellhousing, linkages, crossmember etc., should all be good so I guess my plan is to acquire the T15 locally for as little as I can get it, then dismantle the junker for the balance of the parts.

Keep in mind that a D20 bolting to a T15 will need the recess to clear the 2 shafts that stick out the rear of the t15, which I believe are the reverse idler gear shaft and the countershaft.

More great info. I think T90 D18's need that as well. If I can get the trans I'll do it. That will give me everything I need once I strip the junker.
