    Head casting numbers B1376348-D

    Can anyone date these heads??????

Has anyone had experience doing minor porting on stock heads by gasket matching to inlet and exhaust manifolds as well as removing the small tubing nub in the inlet ports.

    Thanks!!

I gasket matched my heads back in 2005, both intake and exhaust ports, polished the chambers smooth. I also polished out the bowls around the intake and exhaust ports and had hardened valve seats put in the exhaust side and had a 3 angle valve job done with umbrella seals put on the valves. I can't tell you what difference it made as my engine was totally worn out with a hard 166,000 miles on it when I did this. The one thing I can tell you is my engine idles much steadier and smoother than a lot of other Dauntless motors now. Power wise my cam is a stock replacement and I have headers, other than that basically a stock engine, it starts easy and pulls real well. The engine with 3.73 gears will run all day long at 70mph on the interstate and excelerate's well even from 70mph, it just gets scary at that speed, especially if a big rig goes by.

My cam will be stock (TA performance RV) and the motor is stock with exhaust manifolds. Hei ignition. I do plan on new exh seats, guides and a 3 angle valve job.
I was just wondering if the gain was worth the work for the port and polish u described. It would be first at trying this work. Thanks for info.

If it was my first time, I would do just the gasket matching and leave the chambers and bowls alone. I do similar work for a living so the polish work was easy. It took me about 6 hours to do all of it. I believe the gain was worth the effort.

I do notice what Mcruff stated above, it does idol smoother and pulls all the way thru the RPMs.

someone or factory already installed them, but the casting nub in the intake runner still exists. shouldnot be a problem in smoothing that off including the insert.??????????????????????????

it does make a difference. things just flow better when it is smooth. i did an rv cam and did the heads. had a bunch of time on my hands and did a bunch of grinding one night. free horse power. mine is a 231 though

The Intake ports are pretty good right out of the box......whenever you can look through the port and see either end that's not bad...........a little cleanup at the valve stem to give it a smaller and more aero shape cant hurt.......but increasing flow numbers for low rpm use will only marginally add power.................the exhaust on the other hand is where you will see some improvement at all rpm's by putting a bigger radius on that short turn exhaust radius.....from the valve seat to the exhaust flange...........that is where the biggest gain can be made..........but be careful you have water nearby and all should be done to match......
