I'm gonna try my best to recite this story...

Fall 2007 a family in Missouri is moving there daughter into the college dorms. They walk past a 1960 CJ5 with New York plates. Someone says "hey some poor kid drove that here from New York"

Spring 2008 and wouldn't you know she brought "jeep boy" home. Her dad's a machinist and by about 2009 he gets this 1966ish "maybe a 69" CJ5 and plow from an older coworker. Story goes the coworker bought the jeep at surplus auction from the local community college (state fair) the jeep was used to plow and lived at the auto shop.

It seems that they didn't teach much body work at state fair. Patch panels of steel are popped onto the aluminum patch panels which are over the Transmission covers. Seats from who knows what are installed with 2 wood lag bolts and 2 self drilling sheetmetal screws. There are about 16 extra switch holes in the dash. Switches are long gone, likely robbed for some students run stand.
While the switch is gone the labels are still there "hazards all" and "hazards rear". "curt lights" "fog lights" "backup lights" "strobe lights".

When the '66 first came to the farm it had sat a while so it needed some basic service. Brakes, timing chain, i think the Carburetor even got rebuilt. It was running and moving but with the Saginaw swap and the who knows what seats. I was the only one that could "jump in" basically the steering and seats were opposite to a wheelhouse notch. Brakes and steering were great but lunch would keep you from getting behind the wheel.
    So it sat...

I never really had time to look at it really closely. Seems like when your dating someone with a jeep and dad gets a jeep it's a good way for the boys to work together. I guess it was but. The '60 being a daily driver always had something of higher priority (like the darn steering bellcrank bearings)

For a while the 66 was parked back in the old barn. "We'll have to get the super C moved out of the way" eventually it simply lost its place in the barn altogether. I would always try to ask what it needed to run again. But it just sat and sat. Other cars need work and kids need help with there houses.

Ironically all this social distance had put my kids at grandma and grandpa's during the week. We've been going to the farm to be with our kids and we finally pulled te old 66 out if the dirt.

I think the priority is to get the engine running reliably, Debubba the steering, and. Better the seating.

    Need more pictures...

Looks like '70 front fenders, driver's side fuel filler blocked, but rear side added fuel filler, bottom windshield wipers...

I'm thinking the fenders hood windshield were from a 2nd jeep. then the rear fuel stuff thrown on to keep it plowing. It has a fuel selector valve labeled front and rear.

Ya I guess so. Lost a lot of hair and gained a lot of weight. Might actually be the narrator of this story.

Today's news is brought to you by famous gas station pizza. Because if you make a trip to town for a tool you better bring back dinner.

    Buick oil pumps...

I don't have anything good to say other than I'm glad we didn't have to pull the oil pan.
I don't know if it's normal but this one has these slotted machine screws that must have had permanent lock tight or extra rust.

At first I used a big 1/4 flat screwdriver and tweaked the slot. Eventually we got a impact driver with a 5/16 bit

[IMG]20200510_150150 by Joe with a jeep, on Flickr

    It was a pita
But we have it pulled apart and found the pressure relief galley was misshapen and causing the plunger to stick.

We got the oil pump rebuilt and it's running with decent pressure. We did ream the pressure relief galley and it slides smoothly.
This past weekend we got around to install the fuel pump. my wife's cousin wanted to help and I think he caught a Jeep bug, this was supposed to be my vacation to work on my jeep and next thing I know we are pulling all the rusted brake lines off this thing. by the end of the day I'm saying "think about maybe getting a job to buy jeep parts"

Joe, I have extra oil pump if you want it. Also have wheel cylinders and 10 inch drums. All free to a friend.

Thanks Randy! I remember working on the wheel cylinders, master cylinder, new shoes and springs a few years ago... thinking about it it was likely 6 or 7 years ago so anything could be bad again.
We will be working on it again this weekend and hopefully we will know more. I doubt we will need anything but I will keep you in mind if we do.
    Thanks again!

My father in law got the rig out again. I got to putter around a little but. oil pressure is questionable but it starts, moves, and stops.
