Is there any way to check the fuel and amp guages without installing them on a Jeep//
Cleaning house again and ran across four old style speedos..cant remember if they work or not and I hate to get rid of them before testing them...any ideas...??
Amp meter will tell me about the juice ..I am loking for something to make the guages to move...

Before you begin, remember that these are 6 volt guages and if you leave them connected to 12v for too long, they will burn out.

for the regulator test it is easier to read with an analog meter than with a didgital, but either can be used.

    Terminals
    S: sender
    I: ignition
    A: adjusted (regulated) voltage

the strap connects the A terminal of the two guages

    temp guage:
with the S terminal grounded, momentarily touch 12v to the I terminal, the guage should peg. if it does not it is shot.

    fuel guage:
with the S terminal grounded, momentarily touch 12v to the A terminal, the guage should peg. if it does not the guage portion is shot.

    regulator:
attach a volt meter across the I and A terminals of the fuel guage. with it attached, connect the S terminal to ground and touch 12V+ to the I terminal, the meter should fluctuate around 5v. if it reads nothing, the regulator open. if it reads 12V, the regulator points are stuck together. if it fluctuates but averages higher or lower that 5v, it can be adjusted.

    normal electrical safety rules apply

    good luck
