My Jeep is almost back together. It has a Solex carb on it (new a year ago) and when you advance the throttle it hesitates just a bit before taking off. It is more obvious when the engine is cold but still there after it warms up. Has anyone else had this experience with a Solex and found a solution?

    Suggestions appreciated.

I have a new Solex, although I'm not using it because I was able to score a professionally rebuilt original that works fantastically. I learned that Solexes are very picky on two things -- vacuum and fuel pressure. You need to make sure you get a very good seal at the base by using a new gasket and tightening the nuts properly or else it will form a vacuum leak and act the way you describe. You also may need a good fuel pressure regulator, not an el cheapo one that most FLAPs sell but a good one from Summit Racing or other suppliers.

Once I learned those two things, I was able to get my Solex working very well. They do tend to run rich.
