Ok, since I have to pull the transmission and transfer case, I'm thinking I might as well upgrade to a 4spd and dump the T-14.

What pieces and parts am I going to need to get? What do I need to look out for? I tried searching and wasn't able to find much of what I was looking for.

    Thanks!

I agree, Novak has great people and have they outstanding customer service.

A couple of things I learned.
    1. It will be more expensive than you first think it will be.
    2. You will find other things that need to be fixed (mine was motor mounts, oil pan gasket, new e-brake).
    3. Depending on how you use your rig it will be one of the best mods you can make.
    4. Might as well go through your t-case while you have it out.
I have a thread on here and will see if I can find it.

    Good luck!

I've got the Advance Adapters SM465 to D18/20 adapter set up right now. Currently swapping it in behind my 304. It pays to get a full rebuild kit for the 465 at the same time since you will be taking the main shaft out anyway to swap for the Advance one. The overall length ends up at around 14" from the front of the trans to the t-case mounting surface, so there will be drive shaft changes needed. The adapter also allows you to clock the t-case a few degrees if necessary. Its a nice kit, basically the same as the novak unit.

I bought a rebuilt sm465 from Herm to Overdrive Guy with the 1" adapter already installed. His cross member mount kit for it is alittle goofy, and had wood spacers where the cross member hits the frame rails. Even with the adapter already installed, it was far from plug and play.

I really like the low gear and mechanically it was a good swap.

BUT, it is a really big transmission and substantially invades the space near your accelerator pedal. That makes a transmission cover hard to design. Although some people on the board have made really good looking transmission covers for the sm465, I'm no good at welding, and the shop fees for a custom cover are too much. I have just be red-necking it for 3 years with a hole in my floorboard.

I liked the SM465 swap I did on mine - other than the size, I think it's a better option than the T18 as the ratios fit better. I did my own fab work for the cross member and everything and didn't find it too hard.

I will say that it seems no matter what way I go, it seems to cost about $1K to do the 4 speed swap. That is the mix and match of parts, and what I can find at the time.
