Well I picked up one piece of the puzzle today (For the great price of $100) :D

Can anyone identify if this is a BOP bellhousing that will bolt up to the V6? From the little bit of reading I've done I think it should work.

Plans for this winter are SM465 swap, hydraulic clutch conversion, hanging pedal conversion, and engine rebuild. Not sure if I'll get it all done but I might as well try :)

That looks like the standard bellhousing from a Chevy truck. It will mate up with a small block Chevy v6 or v8.

    Well....wishful thinking I guess

Whats the proper bellhousing to use for this swap? A Dauntless BH without the adapter?

Standard BOP for a 225 or 231. Novak has a writeup on how to adapt it depending on if you want to machine the BH, Bearing retainer, or both. I was short a Bell when I did mine, so just bought one of the AA ones already setup.

    Thanks guys

Looks like I'll be on the lookout for a BOP bellhousing since mine has the adapter cast into it.

If you ever get over this way, let me know and I will see if I have an extra now (got a pile of BHs when I bought some parts a while back).

Spent a few hours tearing things apart this week. Heres where I'm at
    [IMG]

T-14 is puny when next to the SM465

I think I'm going to pull the body off and blast or wire wheel the frame, do a few repairs, and paint it.

Man, looking at your Jeep took me back a couple of years. My Jeep used to be the same color as yours, way back when. Looks like a great project you have. I just bought a bellhousing from Herm the Overdrive Guy for mine. Looks like you'll be needing the t-case adapter and a shorter output shaft for that tranny.

Yep gonna order the Novak rebuild kit and mainshaft to adapt it to the 18.

How much did Herm charge for your bellhousing? I was thinking about asking him if he would trade my T14 BH for the shorter one that I need.

Made some more progress this weekend.

I feel like I'm going overboard, but I want to start with a clean slate and have a Jeep that I'm not afraid to drive more that an half an hour away.

Got the tub pulled off Tuesday evening. I used my engine hoist, slid out the chassis, and had the fiance help position the sawhorses. It wasn't the ideal lift (boom too short), but it did work.

Tonight I pulled the rear crossmember and everything else off the frame. The drivers side under the crossmember is a bit thin but repairable.

The frame is getting dropped off to be blasted either Monday or Tuesday. I plan to strap the top and bottom of the frame with either 1/8" or 3/16", box in around the rear spring and shackle hangers, fab a new rear crossmember, and weld up all the unused holes all over the frame. I'm also going to redo the saginaw setup in the front, but that will happen once the tub and steering column are back on.

    You nailed it! :)

I've found a few things that could have become issues had I not taken it this far.

I use C Channel on the front and rear to replace the end cross members. Just an opinion - use the 1/8 to strap it with and stich weld it in. I seem to get better penitration when I use the same thickness for the strap and box areas. Also - look at how they bent the lap on the inside of the boxing. You have a better chance of matching that with 1/8". If you don't lap it - set the plates on the inside lip of the frame so the weld is not the only thing providing crush strength.

Looks good - you have already gotten most of the snow ball effect out in the open :)

Come to think of it, I'm more than likely just going to strap the frame and beef up the rear crossmember. From the research that I've done, its either box it all or none. I'm not going to box it all because it will just trap debris and this Jeep will be 50/50 on off road.

    A little update

I took the bare frame to the shop that I spoke with last week about doing the blasting. The guys in the shop said they no longer do sand blasting  They directed me to the welding shop across the street. Met up with the owner later in the day to get a quote, he could do it for $300, maybe a bit less.

Looks like the angle grinder and I are going to be best friends as this is the only shop that does blasting within a 1.5 hour radius.
