Well, after a couple quick road runs I determined that I needed to adjust the shifter cable so my shifter would pick up every gear correctly. Then after some adjustment it would barely turn over. I did notice the volt meter was just under 12 volts when running so out the alternator comes and down to the parts store to get checked out. I also need to fine tune the electric fan when it comes on.

Oh the last details! I'm glad I'm not rushing to go out or anything. Nothing worse then scrambling the wee hours of the night just before an important trip.

    Update!!

Well after my first outing in the dirt just trying to break it in softly I incountered my first issue. While driving around slowly in first gear (it's and auto) i was trying to see how my cable adjustment was and if I needed to fine tune it when I noticed I no longer had neutral.

I continued to drive around (still slowly) I now noticed I don't have reverse or Park, AAArrgghhh!! Actually I was pretty calm but bummed I wouldn't be able to use it the rest of the holiday weekend. I called my tranny guy and he thought I'd burnt up the clutches and thus locked into only forward gears.

I removed the trans when I got home and went straight to the shop to have it looked at. Dropped the pan and the tranny guy immediately got red faced and big eyed! The linkage bolt on the inside of the tranny came off and jammed it solid with no chance of a correct shift. All good news even though I had to drop the tranny. I'm using the excersize as an opportunity to adjust a few things that will help with front drive line issues.

I should have her back together by next weekend and ready for the dirt again by the end of the month. (slow progress I know).

Anyone interested in a very short TH350 to Dana 300 adapter (with custom output shaft)keep your eyes peeled in the classifieds as the old adapter is going up for sale soon.

oops, what happened to my attachment?

    how about this?

Sold it when some other guy had to have it and now I kind of wish I didn't. Oh well, we all have one of those wish we didn't moments.

The doors were originally hinged from the inside of the jamb with small stainless hinges (not seen in the first image). I tossed that plan after it came home from paint and the doors just didn't seem strudy or close just right. I saw the hinges (in the second image) in a UTV magazine (think Rhino or other SXS) These little babies were designed for a Polaris hood hinge replacements made by a compnay out of Phoenix called Dragonfire Racing. I used two sets and split them so I could remove the doors in a similar fashion as the soft top by just opening the door and pulling directly up.

The fuel neck is just the right size to plug the original hole but I needed ato fab a backing plate that I tacked in place so I could bolt the new filler to it. I have the filler plumbed to the back tank from that location (goes across the top of the frame). I did this because I did not really want an under seat tank nor did I want to cut another filler hole in the back of the body. I have some downward slope so filling works fine and the tank inlet is at the back of the tank so it can't leak out the filler when going down hills.

I hope that answers your questions!

Thank you for the response. I probably worded it incorrectly but i was wondering how the door latches to the door jam by the handle etc

    Oh, that makes sense!

Well, I used a set of stainless door latches that I found in a specialized catalog at work. I bought them ages ago but never used them until now. I fabbed up a piece of flat steel that I welded to a piece of half tube. That piece bolts directly to the roll bar that runs along the door jamb opening. It basically comes up and out from the roll cage over the top edge of the body. It has a square hole in the end for the latch to engage.

The only negative about the whole deal is you need to be carefull when you get out of the Jeep so you don't snag on the latch. It hasn't got me yet but maybe someday it may catch my clothes or something.

I'll try and shoot an image of it and put it up on my photobucket account (maybe next weekend)

    Update:
Installed the "fixed" tranny and started the mock up of everything. I looked at this tranny issue as a blessing so I could get my drive shaft clearance issue solved. I removed the short TH350 to Dana 300 adapter and replaced it with one I had from Novac. The difference is about 1" in length so pusing my Dana 300 back an inch should help with my front driveline issue. It also clocked it down just slightly then the previous one. I had to notch my crossmember so the front drive flange would clear. I mocked up the front drive line and it runs just next to the pan (not much room to spare). Now I need to modify the tranny pan as I put my tranny temp sensor in a spot that will get in the way of the driveline. While I'm at it I'm going to modify it to give me a little breathing room.

The worst case I'll need to split the front drive line like a Jeepster / Commado but as long as I put a bump stop in the right spot I shold be fine. I'm going to haul my drive line to the guy that built them for me tomorrow so he can shorten the rear at least an inch and finish welding up the front.

The last thing will be to build a new cross member for the front so I can build a skid plate that will cover the whole mess. I lost a little ground clearance at the Dana 300 because it is now clocked down slightly but that shouldn't be the end of the world.

I know this is all worthless with out pics. I'll shoot some tomorrow and try and have them up soon. Trying like heck to get this done so I can take it out Presidents weekend.

    updated for 6/10:

I had some issues with my Hydro Boost / PS pump and sent them all back to Vanco to get inspected. They are great guys and he just sent me all new parts so I replumbed the whole steering and hydroboost system and finally got it back together this weekend. I drove it around the neighborhood and man do those brakes work awesome! Now that the Hydroboost is fixed I have a new issue, the tranny won't shift into third, aargh! We I drove it down to my tranny guy (not far) and he test drove it and said he knew what it was and he'll be able to fix it on Friday. The best news is I don't have to pull the tranny. So, in a perfect world I'll be ready for some trails in a week or so.

    Don & Jim,

I was watching that trip thread closely until a date got picked. August is a bad month for me travel wise so I don't think I'll be able to make it to that one. I'll keep watching for something I can make.
