    Hi guys,
So just wanted to share something in case it could help somebody. I have a CJ5 with a tailgate, and PO had mounted aux wheel and jerry on the tailgate just before I bought it, after a couple of weeks of driving about I noticed the tailgate had "split"on the top near the wheel (because of it's weight)
The tailgate had been partially reinforced (it had a plate behind the wheel mounting) but it still weighs a ton.
So I took it upon myself to find a solution to this, I wanted to maintain the look with both items on the rear but didn't want to end up with a pile of bent metal.
I used this as an excuse to buy a welder and start learning haha
Bought some 1.5" width 3/16" thickness metal

Welded 2 side by side to create a 3 inch base

Added a perpendicular piece and a small triangle

    Some reinforcements later

    Lick of paint
    [IMG]
    Back on
    [IMG]
    Wheel back where it belongs

    And back on the trail!

    Hi!
I'm from Uruguay, this CJ5 is made by Ford Brazil, that's why there are some differences with the american made CJ5
It's a 1969 model. Ford Brazil made several weird choices when building these CJ5, it has a BF-161 paired with a T90/D18.
Squared wheel arches, working cowl vent, "newer" Jeep side logo, no provision for bow, and some other small diffs I'm not remembering right now :)
