Where can I find replacement head bolts for the :v6:? Don't need ARP or anything special unless they are all that is available.

I used ARP the last time. By the time I could get anything else, it just was not worth the difference.

    Chuck,

Do you have the part number of the ARP kit that you used?

I just spoke with ARP on the phone and they do no make head bolts for the 225 V6. They have a kit for 77-85 V6's but the lengths are wrong according to the tech.

Looked through the list and it's not there. I took the old ones in and a guy at my flaps (gear head too) measured them up and gave me 3 or 4 packages that made up the ones I used. I think I had 2 extras if that helps... probably doesn't.

Have you tried TA Performance? They would know the cross ref if anyone now days.

Thats what I'd like to do but all the parts stores around here don't stock head bolts.

I will call TA Performance in the morning and see what they say. If I could find a page or chart thats lists the lengths of the ARP bolts it would be really helpful.

I purchased the headbolts.com kit and it is correct. ARP bolts, washers, and lube in the box.

This is the best news I've heard all day! :) NAPA has no listing, neither does Parts City, or Autozone. Thought I was gonna have to find a used set somewhere...

The Headbolts.com website is just a bit dated looking, sometimes I'm easily scared off by little things like that. Gonna place an order now though. Thanks!

I started to bolt on one of the heads last night. Following the proper torque sequence in the FSM, I started torquing them at 20, then 40, then 60, and was going to finish at 75. When I started to tighten the first bolt to 75 ft-lbs something didn't seem right. The wrench never clicked when it "should" have and things didn't seem to be getting any tighter. I stopped there for fear of snapping the bolt and figured that new bolts are cheap insurance in the grand scheme of things.

Also the bolt in question is slightly longer than the other bolts which tells me it was starting to stretch.

Stretch and Time are the biggest reasons to swap them out. The more a motor is taken down and rebuilt, the more likely you need to swap the bolts out. I don't have the fancy test systems, but a measurement and gut is what I use.

Glad to see they worked out on the ARP. Good reference for the info - post the ARP part number please :)

I will definitely post the part number when they arrive.

I placed the order with Headbolts.com last night around 7. I had an email at 8 this morning saying they shipped via USPS flat rate. So far so good!

    it's not an arp number. It's a headbolt.com number.

I was hoping it was like the pack made for me years ago, just a group of ARP parts that make up the kit and a list of those would help find them other places.

No list or ARP part numbers. Sorry, they are exactly the same size as originals, at least eye balled.

As the saying goes "Never judge a book (or website) by its cover. The bolts arrived today.

Length comparison. The old bolts are on the right. The new bolts with washers are on the left. The new bolts are about 1/8" shorter but I think they will work just fine :) And the dumb question is, do the washers even need to be used with the flange head bolts?

The bolts are exactly the same. The washers make the difference. I haven't come to a decision on that one myself yet either.
