If you get a replacement speedometer, check the back of the speedometer to make sure they put the jumper bar on correctly. If it's put on incorrectly the 12v nut can touch the bar, and burn out the voltage regulator.

Here is how I received the speedometer:

Notice how the bar is almost touching the 12v nut.

Here is the original speedometer showing the proper orientation of the jumper bar:

Unfortunately, I didn't notice this until it was too late. I hope I can return it.

As a side note, WD40 works great for cleaning up speedometer faces.

It looks like the bar may just need to be flipped around. I recently bought a replacement head, but it would not fit my original case. What is your source?

Yes, you are correct, the bar just needs to be flipped around. I just wish I had noticed it was wrong before I hooked it up. I got it from Quadratec:

I just contacted Quadratec and they are sending me a replacement, yay!

Follow up: I received the replacement speedometer. The jumper bar on this speedo was also installed incorrectly, so it wasn't a random occurance. Watch out for this if you get the replacement speedo from Quadratec.
