What size are the center bolts for the rear leaf springs? There is no listing in the service manual. The reason I'm asking is because I am planning on removing both of the rear springs and cleaning and painting them to keep them from rusting and splitting. They are the factory grooved springs.

Those are round head bolts, you should be able to find them at a spring shop. I am sure they can match some up for you. The spring shop by my gave me a set free. I put C-clamps on the springs when I cut them just in case they want to go flying, or the bolt might go flying and hit you, just saying, Good Luck

My factory springs had 5/16 center bolts. I was able to get the correct round head bolts at napa.

Measure The head and I will find them here , by Detroit and send them to you. I will need the head diameter, that is the only thing that matters, they come extra long so you can cut them. They need to fit into the hole in the axel plate. I don't have an axel to measure without going to my friends and checking an axel, and that is 20 miles to his barn. Let me know, I will help you. Good luck, Rick

Those bolts look a bit short for a Jeep spring pack. Typically the leaves will spread when you remove the center bolt, and the bolt needs to be long enough to pull the pack together. Maybe they'd be ok on springs that had been in service for a long time.

Ok so I'm going to use the center bolts from NAPA. Now on to the rear Ubolts QTM jeep parts has ones that say they will fit a CJ3B but not a CJ5. If you look up the ubolts in the parts manual it says they will fit a CJ3B or CJ5/6. Also it's listed that they will fit the front also. Except the for the one long one that goes for the differential housing.

It says too short for the M38A1. Do they have a thicker spring pack than a standard CJ5? How many leafs are in your pack?

Probably - mine even has OEM coil helpers to carry the 106mm.

But what is 'standard?" Ten leaves, twelve, seven, nine? There were many options.

Mine are factory 9 leaf grooved springs. Mine did have aftermarket coil helper springs mounted in place of the rear shocks. And there was no travel in the rear when driving it. You can see them in the picture below.

IIRC I used the Rancho bolts to put Mike's wedges together with my BDS springs. Those were about 5" in length and the length was needed to draw the springs together.

I don't know. But are seven of the 8 ubolts the same? Or are the front and rear axle tube sizes different?

It's been probably 15 years since I messed with mine so I don't remember for sure if 7 are the same but if the parts book says they are then they must be. The 1 that goes around the housing is of course bigger diameter.
