70 V-6 won't start now. Changed lifters and push rods to get rid of tick, put it all back, and now, no go...... Discovered I had pinched hot lead between coil bracket and block, undid that goof (still have continuity) still have a spark from coil to cap, checked plug wire oreintation on cap; thought I was good to go. Not.

Looked thru FSM and did the search here; want to confirm that starting from just ccw from the notch as #1, then cw with the firing order is correct. This critter was starting reasonably well, until I got involved, heh-heh! I've missed something, but ain't sure what, yet. Didn't really change anything that I am aware of to cause this. Just home from graveyard shift; gotta do some zzzz's, then will check in a while.

did you put oil in your lifters before you stuck them in? would makse sence that if they had no fluid, they wouldnt pump up. i know they will eventually get oil, but its always good to soak em before hand. rhodes lifters have a specific start up procedure, just wondering.

you check to see if spark goes all the way to plug? have wife/friend turn it over while you hold onto the plug...er i mean check with a light. =)

if you removed the dist, are you sure its in the right place?

float/needle get stuck in the closed position while moving around the intake while it was off the jeep? will it try to start if you spray something down the neck?

just quick things to check for now...

Yep, stuck each lifter in a cup of oil, and pumped them till the bubbles stopped, even tho I was told I didn't have to. Cheap insurance, I thought. Haven't actually checked spark to plug; need to climb under and hook up my remote start button. The CFO doesn't get home until dinner time, and then I gotta catch another z or two before work. Didn't pull distributor, so it hasn't moved. Got plenty of gas; that's what went Kaboom yesterday when it did try to fire once......

There ain't a cloud in the sky this afternoon, so now I gotta get some mowing done before the rains start in again. No wonder it takes so long to fix anything!!!! I'll keep checking. Is the orientation I described correct?

180 out. Gee. Howdathappen? Most of the tick is gone. Most? Will move to a new post, when I figger out what my next question should be. Don't know what a V-6 should sound like, but I don't think it's this........ Maybe it was an exhaust leak, I dunno. Gonna go for a spin.

Had plug wires 180 degrees off. Just can't imagine how that happened.
