Opinions about solid colors painting vs patina as a theme but for running gear? Seems like patina is now an acceptable alternative to solid colors for body paint but what about patina for running gear and everything else? I am considering applying a clearcoat vs a solid color as a final protective layer onto the transmission/transfercase assembly. Its a combination of new and old stuff. Some parts in this build are new (the T90c is new from Herm and painted black). While other parts such as transfercase and drivelines are original patina (MC olive drab, black and rebuild orange). The TC has new parts (e.g seals, AA intermedate gear upgrade, pill removal).

Question is, patina or solid uniform color for the running gear?

I'm open to hear your opinions. Thanks!

I mix and match. I have a nicely painted motor connected to patina transmission etc. My disc brakes have painted backing plates, new rotors and calipers bolted to a D27 in its patina glory. My rear 11" brakes are patina, all four locking hubs are painted.

I have a sickness that causes me to clean up and paint the parts I take off my JEEP. It slows down "progress" but it keeps me entertained....

I guess this question only applies if you are lucky enough to still have some paint on your parts. All my parts I would have to clean, paint and then distress for the patina look. So being lazy I just install them after they're painted.:)

I like patina on the outside of the rig, so long as everything underneath is blasted and painted so it looks new. Thats the contrast that aways makes me smile like, "You tricky SOB, I see what you did there."

I kinda like it all match. All painted and new looking or all "patina."
