Pegged gauge is a direct ground of the wire from sender to gauge.

May I ask why you don't have the whole assembly installed from the back side?

Why isn't your speed installed on the back of your dash?

I should have said from the back side of the dash. Is that a replacement dash? Where your screws are there should be studs spot welded and the assembly put in from the back side and held on with nuts. I wonder if a wire might be grounding on the dash?

I get it....it should just be the circle.... well, I did it a bunch of years back when I was younger and knew everything. I always planned on getting it right, but, ya know....and id have 4 weird holes in the dash...to match the other random holes.

He means it could be touching metal somewhere. That's why I'm wondering if it's touching the dash maybe due to the way it's mounted?

well I had my buddy come over that is an electro mechanical wizard, and he took my speedo apart, and found the issue in 5 minutes. he pointed at a thing and said this doohickey needs to do this, which isn't so I need to order a new temp gauge to go inside of my instrument cluster.

anybody have any suggestions? I looked at rock auto and it was sold out. Morris has the pair of them for 40 bucks, +shipping. seems like a lot and I only need one of the gauges.

The reviews on those are basically all bad. I'd seriously consider just using a mechanical water temperature gauge and be done with it. As much as I like "correct" parts, I prefer correct readings even better.

Go to a military site, might find NOS there and will probably pay for it
